How and where to apply Gummi Pflege

Okay, I am going to go to the dealer to pick up some Gummi Pflege for my window trim. Since I cleaned my seals the creaks I heard went away, but yesterday (about a week since) they've come back. I need to lube them up, so the sounds will stay away for a longer period of time. What steps should I take to prep the seals? Should I clean them again before I apply the Pflege? What should I clean them with? Then how and where should I apply the Pflege? What are all the seals I should hit? Details would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Off topic, does anyone run Eibach Pro Kit with stock shocks???

Doesn't Napa sell a product similar to Gummi Pflege? I'm still searching because i need to do the same on my car.

Crap - my dealer told me BMW no longer carries it but that NAPA does.

I ordered mine from Pacific BMW. 1-800-909-7278 and speak with Louie. The part number is 82-14-9-407-015. If you're buying Gummi Pflege from them, it might be a good idea to also order spare wiper blades, oil filters, microfilters, and any other little bits and pieces so the shipping cost isn't such a high percentage of your total order cost.

Sorry to tell you this, but BMW dealerships still carry Gumiphlege. I just bought one for $7.50 at United BMW here in Atlanta. Go either to the parts dept. or the service area. Inside the service area, they should have some also. The part number is 82 14 9 407 015 . This is for the 1.2 oz. tube. They also have two other versions. One is a bigger tube (300ml) which is 82 14 9 400 195 or you can get a spray version (300ml) which is 83 12 0 301 480 . And remember if you are a BMW CCA member, you can get up to 15% off.

Gumiplege is also known as "Rubber Care"

Pacific BMW sells it for $5.40. It makes sense if you plan to buy a bunch of stuff from them. Otherwise, the shipping charge will still make it more expensive overall than picking it up at your local dealer. Of course, the distance you have to drive and the value of your time should also be taken into consideration! :)

Door and window seals. Made a noticible difference in the amount of creaking I hear...went from being pretty bad to just the occasional click (I must've missed a spot). Given that Florida is damn humid, it's not really necessary for me to relube the seals that often, especially those that aren't in the sunlight.

My car is in the shop today getting all door and window seals replaced. They did not even try the lube stuff first. I am a little nervous that my car will sound like a wind tunnel once I get it back. For some reason I don't have faith they will be able to put it back together correctly.

I'll let you know how it goes. I have a 100 mile drive to CT tonight, so I'll know if it worked.

You can also get gummifledge from any porsche VW dealer. My window cracks sounded like the window but it was the felt strip along the top of the door, just put the gumi on the felt and where it contacts the roof.

OK - so my "other" dealer carries it and I picked up a tube today for $6. They said they didn't have it for a while but they keep it on hand now for "enthusiasts".

Dude, I know your feeling about not having faith in them putting it back together. Every time I had something fixed I would have to go back at least once to have it redone properly. I swear I really don't know what goes on at dealerships. I hope the new delaer I'm going to try tomorrow has the gummi in stock. I also hope it gives a noticable difference. I'm noticing sounds from the rear windows now as well. I can't stand the sounds, and with winter coming the windows will be up alot more. So we'll see what happens.

Keep me posted, and once again, find out what the cost would be if you were out of warrantee. Thanks/

Looks good in the pic, how long you been riding on them. I got 26,000 miles on my stock shocks. I really don't want to drop the extra money now on shocks. You think they'll hold up for awhile if I throw the pro kit on? Also, how's your ride quality with them?

Thank's

Well I was right. The dealer did not install the window/door seals correctly. There was a huge gap next to the drivers front mirror. Also it was not seated correctly the whole way around the door frames. I went and talked to the GM of the dealership. He offerd a loaner until it was fixed, I declined because I did not know what my schedule would be over the next days. While I was in CT, I called my service mgr and he apologized and offered a loaner(this place is bad with loaners). So I dropped it off on my way back from CT, then picked it up tonight. Well the gap is fixed, but the seal is not seated correctly. I will just fix it myself. They were supposed to Gummi P. the widows, but I don't think they did.

I kind of give up on good service at this place. They are always nice on the phone and do whatever I ask, but can't ever seem to get it right. I almost have to assume it will come back wrong.

I have a very minor issue with my sunroof shade. It gets stuck on the way back when I push it. The clips were replaced, which helped, but the dealer wants to replace the whole sunroof cassette system. this requires that the headliner be dropped down. I think I will decline.

Oh well, let me know how the gummi P. works out.

Good call. I never let the dealer work on anything that is not done with a wrench! (or, these days, a computer!)

Seriously, even the best factory trained tech is not qualified to ASSEMBLE a car. Most everything that is cloth, plastic, vinyl or rubber is installed in the factory with a process that the dealer cannot duplicate. I've never had a door panel, dashboard, or anything ever put back right. Once that stuff comes apart I personally feel the car will be wrong forever.

Geeze! Can't dealers these days get anything right??? I feel for you, I really do. This is why I am reluctant to get any repairs at the dealer that are not covered by my CPO.

I went to Laurel BMW since I will never again step foot into Westlake BMW and asked about the Gummi Pflege. THey told me BMW discontinued it, and replaced it with another product. THey told me the techs are pissed, since they love gummi pflege, and it would probably do the trick. Instead of taking my money, the referred me to check online for dealers that carry it. I ordered a tube online at Detailers Paradise. The tube was 7 bucks and I also ordered some cockpit spray that's suppose to clean and protect the dash while leaving it matte finish, that was 9 bucks. We'll see if these products do what I want them to. While I was in the ordering mood, I also ordered a "europerf" wheelskin cover from DC Car Care. It's like a normal wheelskin (which I love) but has little perforations in the leather. Should look good once installed. But good luck to you and your seal issue. Find another dealer and complain to BMWNA. But that will yield nothing. They just yes yes you and then do nothing. Westlake wanted to rob me and BMWNA did nothing. Find my post on the whole issue.

As far as the gummi goes, how much do I need to apply? Do I put it on the felt like seal at the bottom of the window as well? How about the felt like seal at the top of the door, where the door meets the roof? What do I clean the seals with before I apply? Please advise more!

Thanks all

sorry to be ignorant but i searched and what is this Gumiphlege stuff? what does it do?
It's suppose to lube up and restore any rubber seals in our cars. Many have had success in getting rid of squeeks and rattles with this stuff. I hope to get rid of my anoying window flexing sound with it.

Well, I just applied sil glyde to my door seals. I bought this stuff at NAPA. I then followed these instructions I found in another thread.

Assuming you have a 4 door sedan, open the driver door and stand between it and the driver seat, facing the door.

At the top left corner of the door, running across and down towards the door hinge is a door seal with a felt edge. That is your culprit. Clean it and lubricate with Gummipflege.

Now turn to face the driver seat and clean the black metal strip that the door seal seals against when the door is closed. Lightly lubricate it also where the strip meets it when it is shut. That should do it.

I copied this off of the Bimmerfest site, I had the exact same problem it sounds like you are having. This absolutely worked a miracle for me. No more popping over bumps and at slow speeds. Instead of Gummipflege from the dealer I used Sil-Glyde from NAPA p/n 765-1351 for $4.88 a tube. About a 2/3 cheaper than Gummi.

So far so good, I went for a ride with the radio and A/C off for a few minutes, until it got too hot. Rattle free for now

I hope this has long lasting results, if not, it was very easy to do. I recommend putting lube between the 2 seals just below the felt strip. It was popping and cracking when I was peeling it apart. When the windows are up, the seal gets pushed a little causing the tighter fit.

Hope this helps.

YES! This did it for me. :woot:

I gummied all the door and window seals with pfledge and it sounded awful. Very disappointing. Did some searching and thankfully found this thread. Silent now. Thanks so much for posting up SHICKS.

Thank's Steve, sounds good. When my gummi arrives I'll try the door seals first. Then if neccessary, I'll lube the window seals as well. I really hope this works. It's so annoying, especially with other people in the car that don't want the radio on because they want to talk. They ask "what's that noise? My Chevy doesn't make that noise!"

I'll post my results when it comes.

Thank's

Just a tip, I would not put it on the window seals. The noise is not from the window seal rubbing. It will also get all over the windows and streak, this stuff is messy and water proof. I just think it would be more trouble than it is worth to put it on the window seals.

Just lube the seal at the top of the door where the felt strip is. That general area is where the trouble is.

I can post pics when I get home tonight.

That's where the noise is coming from??? I can swear it is coming from the very top window seal. Also, I figure the gummi is messy, so I plan on using it sparingly and let it absorb in and dry before I roll up the windows. It's suppose to be for window seals, so we'll see. I appreciate the tip, and will definately try the door seal first to see if that does anything.

Man it really sounds like it's coming from the windows. HMMM. Do we really have the same sound. When you accellerated or turned it sounded like your windows were "flexing" with the car's seals. I can't say it's a squeek or a rattle. It sounds like the window was moving slightly against the seals. That's coming from the door seal?

Weird and wild stuff.

Thank's

I had it all, some days worse than others. The windows made a flexing, creaking and popping noises. It all stopped if I just moved the window down 1mm. When the window is all the way up, it is pushing the seal up and closer to the outside of the door. If the seals are dry, or in my case, I went nuts cleaning one day and cleaned all the seals sqeaky clean  the problem seems worse. I was going to try to put baby power on the seals. This used to help in my Mountain bike days to resist pinch flats. Anyway, the day I cleaned the seals is when most of my noises started. Since I put the lube on Sat, it has been dead silent. I still get the very rare pop sound from the back of the car, not sure what it is, but it happens once in a great while.

Good luck,
Steve
