I had the same problem and took my car in. They told me that a gromet that holds the speaker in place had come loose. You might also be hearing noise from the plastic snaps that hold the door panel in place. Some of the snaps have a small rubber washer that can be lost if your door panel is taken off for any reason. Removing the door panel is easy and you might be able to figure out the problem if you want to save yourself the trouble of taking the car to the dealer. Check the Tech section for directions on removing the door panel.

Good luck.

I have the same problem on the front driver side speaker. The service advisor was like "uhhhh, since you have aftermarket sub, it would cost about $320 to just inspect it. If it turns out to be the bmw problem then it would be free and you don't have to pay the $320". I couldn't believe what I heard. I coulda replaced the damn HK speakers with some after market speakers with that much money:ben: Only certain part of certain song when the bass is low enough that I could hear that rattling sound

Btw, what would be a good direct replacement speakers for the oem HK front speakers?

yes, i know you can get some feedback when you're on the cell.........but i hear this buzzing/rattling sound when i'm not on the cell.

i will have to check if any of the gromets holding the speaker in has come loose. do i just pop out the speaker cover or am i gonna have to take out the whole door panel to get to tighten the speaker gromets?!

i've been dealing with this since about the second month i owned the car. i noticed that if you push on the panel, the buzzing stops. so something more or less needs to be tightened. i'll wait till it gets nicer out before i explore, or stop down by bmw and tell them to fix it...

Hi guys,

I have an '03 M3 with the same problem. There are actually two service bulletins out about this.

One is the passenger side door speaker buzz and the second is buzzing/rattling of the rear deck (where subs sit.)

If you take your car in, just ask them to check these two service bullentins. They should be able to look it up and fix it no problem.

The more complex audio issue I'm having is, when driving listening to the radio, sound is being cut off to certain speakers than comes back or shifts to other speakers. I have the HK upgrade.

Anyone have or hear of this problem?

Hope that helps,

Technical service bulletins are issued by BMW. They're not something we get. When you take your car in for service complaining about a problem, standard procedure for the techs is to check if there has been a recall or "service bulletin" about this issue.

I know about these two HK audio service bullentins because someone on another board actually posted the real bulletins on the 'net for me to read.

Some of them I look up, but they are not all available for some reason, for instance, here is the subwoofer rattle -

Also, you'll have to look back to prior years or different models to find the same issue.

If you have a solid service dept, you shouldn't even have to do this work. I use BMW Peabody, MA and they have always been top-notch.

Thank God for this thread, now I know what the buzzing on my 1.5 month old car is! :)

Not upset over it, but will help when I bring the car in next week to fix it. All new cars are bound to have little problems, but it helps when you know what to tell the dealer.

:)

that happened to me on the passenger side. later found out it was a empty cd case, in the door next to the speaker.
