Ive had my coupe 3 days and the HK rattle is driving me nuts. I searched and couldn't find anything that really helped. Is there a simple way to fix this other than taking apart the back removing the child restraints, heatrests, speakers etc... Its seriously driving me INSANE
thanks a lot guys

this is what i did, before i threw out the HK

on your rear deck, where the window meets the rear deck, theres gonna be a thin piece of black plastic that separates the window from the rear deck carpet. this is a temporary solution if you don't have something thin enough, but stick like a small piece of plastic, or rubber to "shimmy" it, so you create a small gap. I would test out using some pennies (3) one in the center and one at each corner to see if this is the source of your rattle. Goodluck

talking about the "sub-woofer" rattle?

Take it back to the dealership, they should replace the seal between the box and deck, and port one or two holes into it.

Well, thats what they did to mine anyways, I havent had any rattling problems since.

I have that problem on mine too, I took it into the dealer once and they fixed it somehow, but it only lasted 2 weeks. The rattle came back, and when I took the car in again, they said they didn't hear anything and just gave me the car back. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've decided to fix it myself cuz those f*ckers at BMW don't know what they're doing...

Nics, yup that rattle. WTF I just picked up the car on friday I dont want to be in the dealership with problems already.

nleeumd- I was looking at the deck do you mean on the sides of the deck or on the back of the deck closest to the rearwindow?

If I tap on the rear deck I hear the same noise as the rattle. Is there a simple way to put some foam or other similar material between where
the speakers are mounted and the deck itself?

rattle

I had the same problem. I took my car to the dealership 3 times to fix it. I think they mickey-moused it or something, because it came back every time. So, I decided to take action. I removed the HK sub in the back, and "stuffed" some rags and material in the two holes where the subs fire into the rear deck. It made quite a difference. Dont put too much crap in there though, then the sound gets muffled. Try and push the material towards the rear window by that plastic piece to absorb vibration. That area by the window is where my "rattle" came from. Let me know how this works for you man!

I had the subrattle and stuffed an old rag in the area between the two subs... there is like a small box enclosure it feels like inbetween them that I stuck the rag in...

Anyone mess with the front door speakers yet? I have some serious rattle from those but can't find a DIY about removing the door panel so I can access the speaker... anyone?

I just went down to my car. How can I fit something inbetween the rear window and deck?

Morrow95- To shove the rag in did you take the sub enclosure down? What size bolts are those? The sub enclosure is the vented plastic thing in the shape of a filled in 8 and that has the rectangular Harmon Kardon box on the side? When you say between the subs do you mean the subs and deck or between the sides of the two subs?

Okay, first I tried the penny shim thing and it made a big improment. so then i tried what 323CIBOY said and I showed two old undershirts into each of the sub holes. I think that might have fixed the problem. Gonna have to go do some cruising and see if the noise comes back :)

I followed what Dalton said in this thread for a step-by-step

do a search, some guy posted how to fix it buy using a screw in one of the holes and threading it in untill the screw pushes the rear deck upwards and holds it in place. if i have time, ima do that, as the rags have fallen out.
