I have a lot of plastic decay, so I wanted to replace the wire loom around parts of the harness, notably around the thermostat and for the reverse light sensor over the transmission. I was shocked at how deteriorated the existing plastic was, so I did a bit of research and figured out a few things.
First, there is standard plastic wire loom:
This is not particularly heat-tolerant and will decay.

Second, there is high-temp wire loom. It has a grey strip along its length to indicate that it is made of nylon and can handle higher temperatures:

The issue with the high-temp loom is that it is very stiff, making it extremely hard to actually split to run your wire through. The solution is a wire loom tool.
