High temp wire loom - what I learned

I have a lot of plastic decay, so I wanted to replace the wire loom around parts of the harness, notably around the thermostat and for the reverse light sensor over the transmission. I was shocked at how deteriorated the existing plastic was, so I did a bit of research and figured out a few things.

First, there is standard plastic wire loom:

This is not particularly heat-tolerant and will decay.

Second, there is high-temp wire loom. It has a grey strip along its length to indicate that it is made of nylon and can handle higher temperatures:

The issue with the high-temp loom is that it is very stiff, making it extremely hard to actually split to run your wire through. The solution is a wire loom tool.

I was impatient, so I modded one off of a model I found on a 3d site, so if you have a 3d printer, here is the STL file to print a tool for free:

I hope this is useful!

I have some wiring under the hood that needs new loom, so thanks for the info on the nylon split loom & the tool. I was confused a bit from the picture as to how the tool works, but turns out the tool has an opening on the back of both white & orange pieces for the wiring to be fed through. You rotate the openings together to insert/remove the wiring.

Here is a short video I found to demonstrate:

I recently did an engine swap and replaced five sections of wire loom where it had disintegrated. There are three sizes of loom on the engine harness, btw.

If you want to make it clean, open the little plastic connectors and secure the loom inside each. Opening the main harness box is a pain, but you can, and it will secure the loom.
