Hey guys,

Just wanted to show you all the latest mod i did. Wanted to have a charge station without all the messy wires from a cig lighter adapter floppin around. Found a USB charger thing on amazon for 9.99 (search for Wagan car adapter), its the thing that looks like a cup. I think that its Wagan 2537 something or other. Gutted it and cut it down to size so that it would fit under the coin tray. Kept the blue LED and USB hub and then tapped in to the 12V power from the BMW phone line. Gorrila glued the unit to the underside of the coin tray, routed wires through the back of the euro tray. And here are the results. If you guys want a more outlined DIY i can do that. Just wanted to post the pics of the final result

Order the part and I can tell ya how I did it. You will also need some t taps (or wire taps), male and female 14-16 gauge adapters, some spare wire, electrical tape and the USB cord that came with your iPhone. You can find all the other stuff besides the car charger thing at your local automotive store for a couple of bucks

Does the iphone when plugged in fit inside the euro tray? Is that the full Euro tray or the short cup holder swap tray? Thanks.

From the looks of it, it looks like a short tray. The Long Tray doesn't come with a coin holder, and you can see the seam where the two of them meet.

This is the short tray insert. I thought having cup holders there was stupid so I swapped it out. When the iPhone is plugged in it does fit inside the entire tray with the lid closed. I don't usually do this though since I want to be able to see my phone if I get a text or it's on vibrate mode. So what I do is plug it in and then angle it at like a 45 degree angle so that I can see the top third of it with the lid kind of closed. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info!

Couple more things if you don't mind:

A good source for the short euro tray? It just swaps easily for the cup holders right?

Also, did you leave enough slack in the wire to pull the phone out and adjust songs, etc?

I got my eurotray from bavauto.com. Really good site for everything bimmer related. You should sign up for the catalog too. Always fun to peruse what else you can get for your BMW. Also they have diy write ups every so often. Good source IMO. The cupholders are easily taken out. Just pinch in the sides of the assembly and pull up. That's all.

The USB cable that comes with your iPhone is plenty long enough to take it out to look at your phone, talk, text, or email. The excess wire length I just tucked back through the hole in the back of the eurotray, when not in use, which can be easily retrieved

+1 for the DIY.

Great job on the clean look. I just got my short euro from tisher for $30 and cant wait to pipe some LED/USB in there! :woot:
Thanks!:thanks:

Let me know if you have any questions, should be pretty straightforward once you get the tray off. Just remember, purple/white is power, brown is ground and you're good to go. I was a little tired of having to manually store the USB cord after I had pulled it out a bit. I ended up ordering a retractable USB iphone charge cable off Amazon.com. It was a little over 2 dollars, once I get it i'll replace the cord and post new pics. Glad you guys like it!

:bump: Update - Bump - Whatever you wanna call it

I said earlier I was going to post some pictures of the retractable cable install once I got it from Amazon. (2.98 shipped) Been busy, but here ya go. A couple of thoughts along with this

Photo 1 is the pic of the actual cable. It is retractable but the only problem is that you have to pull from both ends...:censor: Not exactly what I wanted but since the cord retracts it makes it usable in my book. You only pull from one side, but since the USB cord is anchored in to the port, you can't really hide the retractor apparatus. O well.

Photo 2, 3, 4 are install pics. Just thread the USB cord through the slot in the back and then retract the cord. Sits nicely inside the tray.

The cord is quite long, as you can see in pic 5. More than enough length you will need inside your car.

If you guys can locate a retractable iPhone cord anywhere on the net where you only have to pull from ONE side to get it to retract than let me know. I would love to actually have that installed instead of this one. Hope you all like!
