What happens if I just leave the K-BUS disconnected ? How will the car be affected?

Also. maybe this is a very obvious question, but should i work on the k-BUS with the battery disconnected? how can i tell if what i pull out solves the problme or not ?

if you want to put a switch, i would do it after the fuse. although, i would much rather use a relay so that i don't have to manually turn it off everytime. just find another switch wire to use as a trigger.

hopefully you'll be able to fix it with jb's help.

you will need the battery connected if you're testing those wires for power.

thats what i thought. thanks ! I much rather try to fix the problem with BJ's help than hack at the wires and add a switch. thanks !

great. I am looking at the pdf file. I know the X10116 is the K-BUS BLACK BOX attached to the fuse box. i have allready removed that and have full access to it. The pictures below show exactly where i am now.

I dont know what i am looking for in the diagram? are those the connectors to the block that has the yellow/white/red wires?

Should i be cutting and testing? or is their a way to remove the cables without cutting them? please advice on next step. thanks !

LOOK AT PICTURES !

found this intresting read...

"A high-tech data bus system or k-bus system is incorporated to enhance reliability
and reduce the amount of cables, wires and connectors,

The k-bus system reduces the number of wires and cables by using the same
wires and cables for different systems, called mutual data transmission.
Besides reliability, the k-bus system makes assembly much easier, reduces
weight and allows for the integration of additional functions such as rain sensors."

Here is where I am now, and what i solved and what went wrong...

What i wanted to work in the first place, now works GREAT. the radio ! it consists of 4 wires. Head Unit, CD changer and Steering wheel controls. with those 4 wires together i can turn on and off the radio as i want and everything works fine.

The other 3 wires separated on the photo are the 2 blinker wires and 1 seat belt wire, all 3 must be together for both functions to work!

all great to their.

NOW. what changed...

In total their are 13 wires. now i have 6 that i don't know what they do or how to pair them up.

1. The passenger side rear view mirror does not move electronically. the driver side one works fine.
2. the sunroof does not open all the way with just one touch of the button, must keep it pressed.
3.The interior lights do not turn on when the key is taken out of the ignition. they do turn on fine when i open the door.
4. the doors do not lock automatically after driving for about 10 seconds. they do lock fine with lock button and key button.
5. Doors opened indicator on dash does not work. everything else on dash works fine.

at least the radio now works great...HELP...

Any suggestions? I just got a 12v tester. so i am going to go over it again and c what is what.

Thanks in advance

UPDATE...

Battery died on me while testing. yes I had the car off. STUPID i know !

soooo.

I fixed the sideview mirror not working electronically, the cable must be attached to the 4 radio cables.

Found the doors opened indicator on the dash cable (safety and info cable) it must be attached to the two blinker cables for the seatlbelt light to work on the dash, AND. it must be connected to the radio cables for the door's opened and safety info to show.

that's BMW for you, all electronic issues are complicated by fancy systems !

whats the problem with that?... THE RADIO WILL NOT TURN OFF... we go back to the same problem as before !

so right now all is working except the doors opened, safety info on the dash, which control the autolock at 8mph. can i live without that? SURE! but I am gonna run some more tests before i finish !

THANKS...

UPDATE 2 :

My battery died. got a new one (free)

Found out that the module messing around with the K-BUS was the info/emergency one (doors opened indicator on dash) unplugged it, and now everything is working fine.

radio
mirrors
sunroof
a/c
lights
seatbelt light
blinker lights
etc, etc

thanks for the help
