Sorry for delaying to address this (my digicam broke and I couldn't take pics)...

It sounds like you enjoyed the sound, but any idea how much air it moves? The headlight assemblies on our cars are very well sealed (rubber seals around the lights and the bumper) - so I'm unclear how its jamming air into the engine. I think (but could be wrong) that the tube aspect of the Dinan and the angle have something to do with airflow and I want to know how exactly this one works to maximize the CAI to the engine in its way...

With the intake removed the engine bay has a straight intake "port" from the fog housing/brake duct area. The GruppeM heat shield is specifically shaped to take advantage of this port by collecting the air as the car is in motion...

in addition to the pressure area around the inner edge of the headlight and driver-side kidney grill...albeit most of the air is collected from the fog housing, additional CFM is generated by the headlight area, which only helps to make more power. The factory intake has a port just for this area as well.

Lastly, the heat shield is further cooled by the kidney vent...

The E46 intake system includes the following...

Any questions, please feel free to email me or respond to this thread. I have extended the GB by 3 days till Wednesday.

One more pic of the intake installed (I chose not to install the optional mount bracket, since it was an eyesore to me...doesn't affect the MAF sensor).

You think companies like GruppeM would make the rubber sleeve black. ECIS put a black tape around it. Why not just produce it black? It kinda ruins the visual effect with the blue ring IMHO. But if I'm not mistaken they are available at hardware stores right?

I acutally like the blue ring... :dunno:

This is the only intake i like besides the Dinan one... and one thing that worries me about dinan is that its closer to the ground... and with gruppeM I wont have to worry about Hydrolocking. :pimpin:

It may be a question of heat rating.

I was looking around for intake tubing and I found that better rated tubing came in odd colors. However there are some silicone tubing manufacturers that just do show stuff and produce many colors but aren't necessarily high quality couplers and hose.

This isnt hardware store stuff, you want a couple that will last and not crack over time from the heat and wont take on to much heat and heat the air entering the intake track.

Thanks, i never really thought about that but you think they'd come up with a way to make an effective one that looks purdy. :dunno:

Forgive my ignorance, but couldn't you just paint the blue part in any different color with the right kind of paint? (I forget the name, but the spray paint that has high heat tolerance) Or would this compromise the part?:dunno:

only questions i have are.....

1) how are the numbers compared to the usual suspects (dinan, ecis)?

2) how is the sound compared to them

3) do you still have my address or do you need it so you can send me an evaluation unit?

Expect +4% HP and +5% Torque.

330 Dyno (crank figures are in parenthesis)

Check with summit racing, you can find header wrap. I know I saw it in white and black before. Usually the tape is used for headers but should work nicely to cover the blue.

The best covering for a couple was on a NSX air intake. The coupler was red with fish net on top. You cant get any sexier than that.

How do I participate in the group buy and what kind of warranty does the intake have?
