my e46 330ci, i fill up the petrol to the max, but it only reads half way, however when i start driving for a while it slowly creeps up to 7/8.

I then did a cluster reset menu 19.21 and 19.2, and still didnt clear the problem. Then i did a fuel reading test when its full, menu 19.6, and gave me a reading of 233330, which is 23.3L on the left lobe and 33L on the right lobe. Fuel pump is working obviously.

Has anyone experienced this issue?, what can I do?

There wasn article of taking both fuel pump and sending unit out to clean the contacts, but it seems like its working detecting the correct amount of litres in the lobes.

I did get my subframe reinforced, so maybe the shop when they put it back together may have not pushed the electrical connection properly?

Any thoughts?

Thank you

I've got somewhat of the same problem...once I get to half tank...car acts like it's on empty. I'm told and my research points to sender unit...just been too lazy and have to also replace a expansion tank on another of my BMWs. to remove the rear seat and all to bring that gremlin to rest...car drives fine just cant go past half tank. Nevertheless I've got to go in...just not in the mood for it lately.

Hi Getty150, thank you for that....I thought it would be the sender unit but it doesnt make sense as the menu 19.6 tells me that it is ready the Litres right(total of 56 litres when filled to the max)..... maybe its just taking it out and cleaning the connections? or maybe its an electrical fault somewhere.....

let me know if you can find the part no for just the sender unit, i can find the fuel pump on the left hand side, but the part on the right hand side (fuel sender unit) seems harder to come by.....

Its such a bizarre problem, not quite sure where to start spending money and time

Here's my end result...

My e83 200k had been plagued with this problem for the last year. And at the time I had just replaced pump and fuel filter.

04 X3 full all the time

Finally, two days ago I had built up enough tolerance to accept a headache...and I went into the fuel tank. Each side all connections were solid! Left and Right. Except for...the smaller black flex tube inside the fuel pump bucket (e83). One end had disconnected. See if I can find a pic...I don't know the name of this flex tube.
