Whats up guys. I have a 2000 BMW 328Ci that is my baby. It recently had to sit for a couple months because I was too busy and broke to work on it.

The car wouldn't start and it ended up being the battery in the key but now that I have it working again I plan on getting my baby fixed up and in good repair so she can last me another 150k miles.

My question is, what all should I do to freshen up the car and make my car happier for the next couple years.

I'm obviously going to change the oil and oil filter, clean the air filter, replace the tranny and differential fluid and take care of the couple issues that I have been ignoring for the past year or so (replace the side marker light, get the correct windshield wiper blades, fix the front right speaker, do something about the window weather stripping (noise), fix the leak that drips through the top brake light and wax and detail the car).

If your car is at 150k what would you do to freshen it up to last you another 150k???

There's no general guideline to freshening up your car to last 150k miles. Do the proper preventative maintenance like the cooling system and suspension components and just take care of the small stuff that you mentioned. If anything else pops up, make sure you take care of it sooner rather than later.

might wanna check out your cooling system. give it a flush and then one of those pressure tests. another thing would be to run some techron through the tank, gotta love that stuff. I would also drop in a new air filter, clean the MAF and throttle body. the list is endless. if youre anywhere near baltimore id love to come check it out and see if i can help you out a little bit

I am at 148K right now and so far I have replaced:

Spark plugs 100K
Valve cover gasket 100K
Intake boots 115K
Fuel Pump 115K
Fuel filter 115K
Oil filter Housing gasket 144K
Transmission Fluid Change 144K
Differential Fluid Change 144K

On the list to do soon/immediatly
Brakes rotors and pads
Front control arm bushings
Front control arms/ball joints

I bought the car with 77K miles on it.

yeah i was just about to mention the fuel filter as well. My car was acting pretty sluggish before i swapped mine out. Also you may want to look at your intake hosing and vaccum lines for leaks

My fuel filter was last changed 20k ago at 65,000 miles, and isn't due for another 10k at 95,000, but seeing that picture makes me wanna change this weekend!


Even though i'm showing no signs or symptoms Id like to change the O2 sensors and intake/exhaust camshaft sensors as I'm approaching 90k miles.


What do you guys think, wasteful of me to change with no symptoms or no?

Yea, the previous owner was in NY/NJ, so you can see how lovely our gas is here...


Wait, change them when you get the codes.

Damn gas is terrible here. I still use Sunoco, 93 ofcourse. I should start using Shell V-power. The closest Shell though is , what, I think Woodhaven Blvd and Myrtle Ave.

I'd add VANOS rebuild, alternator voltage regulator (with brushes), oil separator with all hoses, lower (and upper) air intake hoses. P/S fluid reservoir (it contains filter) and check for p/s hoses leaks too, I ended up replacing all of them. Of course, all belts, idler pulley, tensioner pulleys. If you have auto tranny - replace filter as well.

Ignition coils - expensive overkill, imo, as long as you don't have misfires you are good.

Fuel filter after 20k - also overkill, imo

Thats what I gotta do, idler pulley and tensioner pulley. They're still original at 85k. I'm afraid my car is a ticking time-bomb, just waiting for idler pulley to seize on me stranding me on the side of some back alley road somewhere.

Wow, I really have some money to spend and gears to wrench. I'm now at.....drum roll please

150k Maintinence
1. Change Oil
2. Replace transmission and differential fluid
3. Replace fuel filter
4. Replace bushings
5. Replace aftermarket air filter
6. Check into the cooling system
7. Wax and detail car

Repairs:
1. Replace side marker light
2. Replace windshield wipers with ones that actually fit correctly
3. Fix right front speaker
4. Fix sunroof cover
5. Do something about extreme wind noise coming through windows
6. Fix angel eye lights
7. Fix the leak that drips in through roof brake light

If you can't tell I've been busy with work and my newborn child and haven't had much time to dedicate to my car. I still don't have the time but I'm going to force myself to get this car back in shape. Anything else you guys can think of that I'm missing here?

Side note my clutch now has 150+ thousand miles on it and I know its sooo close to going but I have no choice but to ride that ***** til the bitter end.

Roof brake light leak? You have a beestinger antenna? If so, Danco #18 o-ring fits perfectly underneath beestinger and stops the leak. Mine has held for years now.

So, that's one fix for $1!

I got my car with 140K miles and I'm at 217K now. If you read all my threads, you'll know what I needed to do. I have not done control arms or alt, but now sort of assume someone before me did one or the other. My clutch, though, I'm pretty sure is original. I also have only done my rear dif bushing and CABs--I know I've got some more to do.

Start with buying tools (there are a few good threads on what you need) and reading/studying diys and realoem.com.
