Cross Drilled Rotors DIY
So I've heard all these cool things about cross drilled rotors.. how they stay cooler and improve braking performance. What size drill bit do you folks recommend? I am using a Black and Decker cordless Firestorm drill. Also, is it really necessary to dismount the rotor before drilling, or can I just do it the easy way? How do I determine what is the best pattern also? And how many hole should I stop at? I dont want to drill too many holes, such that I compromise the structural integrity of the rotors. Your feedback is appreciated.

BTW, Marv asked me to post this since he has been banned.

Tell me you are kidding..... PLEASE tell me you are kidding!

DO NOT DRILL HOLES IN YOUR ROTORS.

Without specialized equipment you will F up your perfectly good rotors.

I'm drilling them right now. It's going pretty well. I'm making a "STAR" design. I guess you could call them superstar rotors. Anyone know how to make the slots. I can't wait to try out my new brakes. Input welcome. Thanks.

No flashlight on the drill, but I figured out how to slot the rotors. I'm using a metal file to cut groves into the rotors. I used a protractor to mark careful measurements to get a 45 deg. angle all the way around. So far so good. I'm saving myself upwards of $800.00. I honestly feel these will out perform Brembo's easily.

Omg, I can't believe you drilled your own rotors...if this works you may have just invented a new mod. But I would rather just spend the 800 bucks for new rotors:dunno:
Guys I finished my project and let me say these brakes are frekin amazing. Brembo who? I can do your rotors BMWERKEN for $150.00, saving you a ton of money, which you can use on another mod. My brakes work so well. Will post more after I get some track time. Save your money, send me your rotors.

I read somewhere that those drilled and slotted rotors are cut with special tools and under special conditions, thats why they cost an arm and a leg. Drilling your own rotor runs the risk of hairline fracture which inturn may cause your rotors to crack under extreme condition.

But I guess if you just go for looks and not racing, it might work.
