It could be, but the 'official' build date of your car is on a sticker placed on the pillar inside the drivers door. It is in a mo/yr format (i.e 02/01 means it was built in Feburary, 2001).So with all the cracking exspansion tanks i took a look at mine. I noticed a sticker on it and it had the build date of my car, does this mean its the original one?
I remember reading about the caps and being told by a service tech about the caps and the tiny valves in them to regulate the pressure. Valves can get 'gunked' up over time and don't regulate properly putting more expansion/contraction pressure on the expansion tank (the irony). The repeated cycles causes very tiny cracks and failure over time. Cheap preventative maintenance: My coolant and cap have been changed once already and i'll probably do it every 2 - 3 yrs.Mine blew at 190,000 KM replaced it and the new one blew again, can anyone help with an explanation please? Checked everything I can think of. Only thing I can think of is that the cap is not releasing the pressure.
