I'd also recommend checking out Raxles, http://www.raxles.com/. Very high quality remanned axles. Used to get them for FWD cars I had in the past. Not necessarily the cheapest, but they're the best IMHO.
IIRC, they can do the front axles on E46 xi models. Note: you'll have to call for a price.
