My 2000 328ci has 170,000 miles and I have not had to add any oil between oil changes which are done every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. I have driven the car 120,000 miles over the last twelve years using mostly BMW factory 5w-30 oil but occasionally Mobil 1 5w-30. I have driven the car extensively in Quebec and Vermont for vacations and ski trips and I have had no issues with the oil even in -30C temperatures. Of course your car has a completely different engine than mine and I am not sure if the four cylinder engines are more prone to using oil between changes when compared to the six cylinder engines. I think some people just get lucky and others don't when it comes to using oil.
