does anyone remember the "e46 weight loss" thread where the OP posted the weight of every individual item he ripped out from his car and what the total weight loss was?

ive been searching for a while and the thread seems to have disappeared... i know it was very popular and the thread got a lot of hits, just cant seem to find it now...

does anyone know what happened to it?

anything else isn't going to do enough to be worth the time
Nonsense! There's no such thing as too light. You've got a radio, an AC unit, a heater core, a passenger seat, all sorts of little metal brackets that are there to hold things you don't need, hinges, an interior...there's a LOT of weight to be lost when you really dig into it. Sure, the aforementioned things might be the low hanging fruit, but really going to town is worth it if you're after serious performance.

There was my thread, 330i weight loss program in the general forum and there was adam's (pei330ci) car and wheel weights thread in the motorsports forum.

Speaking of which, I sense an impending bump. :eeps:

do remind you of weight distribution when stripping your car.
In a race car a cage will add almost as much weight as your gains by replacing seats with bucket seats and rear seat delete. Also... you need adjustable suspension with springs matched to the reduced weight, especially the reduced weight on the rear axle.

False on account of race cars replacing all the weight in the rear with a cage. Many race cars lose more weight on the rear than the front when they are stripped down and built up. But most will happily do that because like what you said, suspension can be adjusted to compensate.

what's with all these weight reduction threads? so you can be faster form stop light to stoplight?

there is some reasonable weight reduction, then there's just :banghead: weight reduction.

Better gas mileage, better braking, better acceleration, better cornering (if the car is adjusted for the weight lost). What's not to want? Also some people care more about performance than certain luxuries and are willing to sacrifice those luxuries.

That is why a lotus elise can beat your car in a straight line or around a track and get better gas mileage doing so.

The point of taking the weight out of the car is to improve handling and low-mid speed acceleration. Sure, you've got a nice set of coil overs and sway bars but after that where do you go? You start taking the weight out of the car. While I can't justify removing things like the air-con, theres no reason why you can't limit the weight of things like the wheels/hood/roof/seats. So what if it doesn't do much? If your at the end of how far your car is going to go and you don't want to supercharge it then weight reduction is the key. Whats with this launching between stoplights crap? 1/4 mile times are nice because you get to tell your friends you actually know how to go in a straight line but anyone serious about having some fun takes it to the track. Weight reduction really counts here. Sure, you might only shave a second off your time with some medium weight reduction compared to the regular weight version but at the end of the day a second is a second.

i think ngng is just expressing his opinion..

by all means, strip your car down and post up your MPG / braking / acceleration gains per lbs.

I've been thinking about this for a while weight reduction thingy and I honesty dont think there is anything that can be taken off the car that will make a big differences without spending big money. Has anyone done some weight reduction and can tell the differences?
