Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been covered in other posts.

I am relatively new to the world of diagnostic software, so I have a few questions.

Can I get everybody's opinion or explanation on:

What are the different types of software and which one is the genuine BMW software, GT1, INPA, DIS etc etc......?

How do they all differ?

Where is the best place to buy such software?

All opinions and links welcome.

Thanks.

hi mate,

im not too tech savy but when i bought one of previous cars the old owner threw in couple of CD's and blue diagnostic cable.

the CD's are of INPA and also DIS/GT1.

very handy to have for pretty much anytthing you want to do diagnostic wise. i used DIS/GT1 recently to do a Vanos test amongst other things.

all i know CD's arent genuine so im guessing he bought them from ebay or similar...

It depends what you want to discover? Do you have error codes?

I recently used INPA to do a mechnical (lots of clunking and banging!) bleed of the SMG Pump and Clutch Slave Cylinder. It also allows you to performance gear change tests and has very detailed error codes and real time data. I don't think INPA has a VANOS test built in.

No error codes that i know of, but i would like to check if there are any logged.

I would like to be able to test the vanos, and reset all smg adaptions and clutch bite point.

Is your INPA software sourced from ebay? Can you pm me the details.

Cheers.

It's probably recommended to keep a hand held scan tool in your car as well, I bought a Creator C310 - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ship-fro...164219?hash=item25cdb7cabb:g:~PEAAOSwtZJY9CIl

You can get better and worse scan tools as well as BlueTooth ones like 'Carly'

I'd already downloaded IPA 5.0.2 from here - http://blog.obdii365.com/2017/01/18/bmw-inpa-download-install-on-windows-xp-vista-7-8-10/

Then I bought this K+DCAN cable which comes with INPA as well - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/302071551569?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
but I don't know what version because I already had a working XP laptop with 5.0.2 on it
