what is it with these people putting an m3 badge on non-m cars... i'm going to show interest and waste their time, then "find out" it's not an m3 and walk away.

i'm going to f* with one of them, this one: https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/cto/d/2005-bmw-330i-package/6346136817.html

Here is what i have so far:
Hi, I'm very interested in your BMW M3. I will buy it from you if there are no major problems with it, such as check-engine light, transmission on its way out, loss of coolant/oil, thing of that nature. Because you are selling it below the value for what they are going for, I'm willing to accept some small problems but you have to tell me ahead of time what problems this car has because I would hate to waste each other's time.
Thanks,

Peter

Him:
It doesn't have any problems I just spent $2,500 in a major tune-up and resealing all the gasket

Me:
Ok, I live in Potomac. Let me get in touch with my buddy who's real good with cars to see if he has time, he can come and look for any problems. If you have a check-engine light now is the time to tell me. Now assuming everything is good, when would you be able to sell the car. I might be able to come by as soon as this evening or I'm thinking at the latest tomorrow.

Him:
I can sale it to you at any time
send me your number
--
I'm thinking next to call him out on selling me an M3 that is not actually an M3, thus worth much less and that he has committed fraud. that my "buddy" tells me that this happens a lot and the best thing to do is file a police report. does that sound good?

Wow! Looks like a 1 of 1 e46 M3 sedan with the very rare Herman Kardon sound system and the 30 piece M badge package!

To be fair, Nowhere in that post does the seller claim it's an M3, unless it has been edited since you posted. Having an M3 badge isn't illegal. The ///M badges are factory on a bunch of factory parts that aren't on an M3. Calling the police would get you nowhere and unless it was a dealer selling new cars as something they aren't, you have no legal recourse. Look up caveat emptor, buyer beware.

Really? A police report? Call the police and see if they are going to want to be bothered with a report on this. They're just going to tell you to move on to the next car. They have a heck of a lot more to worry about than somebody putting an M3 badge on a non M3.

lol police report. The ad in question doesn't even mention that it's an M3. There was another ad where the seller put M3 in the title, but I'd hardly think you could file for fraud. Besides, you'd pursue litigation for that, and not file a police report. You wouldn't have a case in court.

you really think i'm calling the police... come on! the car says it's an m3 and i called it that in my message, he didn't correct it so his thinking is probably if i'm stupid enough not to know that it's a fake m3 then he'll be fine ripping me off. why can't he be honest about it, because he has no issue taking advantage of someone for his own gain that's why.

The ads clearly states "330i M-package"
It does not say "M3"
You're an idiot.
