I recently changed my flex disc and center support bearing recently. After about 1k miles, my center support bearing came lose but not all the way and ripped the rubber sleeve. I replaced the center support bearing and about 10 miles later, it failed again. Then i replaced it once again, and it failed after 10 miles. This happened 4 times in total. After thinking, my flex disc failed because it wasn't put in properly. I have a new flex disc and center support bearing coming tomorrow but my question is, will a bad flex disc cause this? or is my driveshaft bad?

Potentially. If the flex disc is off by one it's off by a mile and could trash the csb, and eventually driveshaft u-joints.

Can you get under and take a picture of the flex disc where either of the flanges are bolted on? The little triangles on the side of the flex disc should all point toward either a transmission or driveshaft flange. Its the easiest thing to check without removing anything.

To really inspect the driveshaft you need to drop it and move all the u joints through their full ranges of motion by hand. If you can feel any binding, even the slightest amount that goes away once it moves for a little bit, then you will likely need a replacement. Indications of grease seepage from any of the ujoints is also a bad sign as is any detectable amount of play in the ujoints.

A local indy BMW shop has noted that there is a red 'dust' of death near the ujoints when they go bad. Fixed by driveshaft replacement. First CSB was replaced just about 2 years ago on my car and they checked the driveshaft (they could not find any issues) and after 1.5 years it started to fail again. Have not taken it back for various reasons but I have a feeling the driveshaft is toast after 17 years and 272K miles.
