Oil filter housing gasket project

It was time to replace oil filter housing gasket & heat exhanger gaskets. Both gaskets at same time. Heat exhanger gasket was like plastic. There is now genuine new gaskets.

And fresh Castrol 5W-40 Magnatec & genuine filter kit

There is some swirl marks in paintwork after winter and washing.
If i have spare time in summertime i will do machine polishing again.

Okay..
It is time consuming, first 2-3 step polishing (you dont want to leave swirl marks under coating). Then coating takes some hours to do + 12-24h time indoors in warm.


Yesterday i replaced trunk lid rear lights because old ones were leaking water inside.

Old ones, see condition..

I bought aftermarket rear lights, those were something like 15$ each.
Also new bulbs..

Okay, not news i want to tell.

I saw car this morning, did my kind of check and testdrive.
There was asking price, and i told my opinion about what i would like to pay, but seller said no.
Next viewer 2h later bought car.

Small updates

Polished Style 45 summer alloy wheels with rotary polisher + 4" hexlogic orange cutting pad+ Scholl S3 gold compound.
I have to decide if i put ceramic coating for wheels or wax. I dont know yet.
Alloys were quite bad, full of swirls and overall .. not shiny.

Here is results after first pass. Lacquer is now smooth like new glass..
I am sure wheel cleaning will be much more fun next summer.

I bought Philips silvervision bulbs for rear indicators:

And couple of pictures after wash, + reload spray for coating.

Timing chain kit , + oil pan gasket replaced

Old parts by SWAG & IWIS. Good condition.

Nice and clean engine , 263.000km.
Full synthetic oils from new.

Oil sump gasket was leaking and car was marking parking area with oil.
In the same time when sump was off, it was easy job replace timing chain, guides etc.

This N46 4 cylinder do have weak timing chain and guides, so it was good to fix before it expolodes. Preventive maintenance.

Hello !

I took my summer car for insurance beginning of may. E46 was in garage over month. Then i had great idea to take side sills off, to clean and check condition under sills.
I expected there may be sand and dirt. My father drove most of his work driving in gravel roads. He was working in forest industry. Maybe E46 was not the best car for that.

Here you have results what sand, rocks, salt, ice and winters do for E46.

I decided i have to fix this.
I dont have lot of experience about welding so i took car for professional welder.
He cut all rot parts off from right sill, and welded fresh sheetmetal.
Left side did not need any welding, sandblasting/painting was enough.

Here is pictures when it is finished. 16 hours of labour.

Today i have plans to install side sills back in place. I hope all old fixings will be fine. If not, then i have to spend more money for new fixings. We will see..
