So I have been having a bit of a look around and it would seem that the exhaust manifold from the e36 M3 can fit on can fit on a M52 engine, I am wondering is this true?

Now a lot of guys around here replace the manifolds on their M54's with the 328i (M52) manifold as a cheap way of going cat-less (luckily we live in a semi-civilized society where you are not required by law to have cats, yay). Now I am wondering, if the e36 M3 manifold can fit on the M52 and the M52 one can fit on the M54, wouldn't it be possible to fit the the M3 manifold on the M54?

(Note: The M54 in question here is the M54B30)

Why not just get BimmerBrames.com headers and be done with it. $240 well worth it.

Except for the S54, all of the M5X and S5X motors have the same bolt pattern for the exhaust manifolds mounting to the engine. So that part shouldn't be a problem. What will require some work is getting the headers to mate with the rest of the exhaust. And if the cars are RHD where you live (based on your sig, that seems to be the case), you may run into issues with the header hitting the steering column.

Now even if the headers mount fine, they might not be ideal. The S50B32 headers have larger pipes; the exhaust velocity might simply be too low when mated to an M54.

Thanks guys for the comments guys, yeah I could get aftermarket headers here as we but I would rather prefer to keep thing OEM as far as I can, yeah it is crazy I know

Do you think that the fact that my car is RHD will be a problem if the header also comes from a RHD M3? Also I am planning to replace the pipes after the header with custom made ones so I should be able to adapt it to be the right size.

So picked up this yesterday evening:

I this cost me pretty much the same as it would have cost me to get a set of $250 headers here, unfortunately shipping, and import duties here is a total female dog, just shipping usually tends to double the price of whatever you order and then customs can just slap up to an extra 40% on as tax just for good measure if they feel like it

Can't wait to see the finished outcome. Where are you going to weld your o2 Bungs. Remember they need to sit at a 10 degree bias from vertical (correct me if I'm wrong).

I was thinking of them close to the collector (or whatever you call where the pipes come together) to get them as close to the ports as they are on my current headers.

Yup I will definitely post up sound clips, though I still need to get the rest of the exhaust made to go with these so might take some time, but I have to say looking at them I am now itching pretty bad to get this on my car

Fitted the S50 headers to M54 engine in a Z4. Slight modification needed but all was very worth it!

How do you feel the car now? Any gains?

What did you do with cats?

Car feels much quicker but I did replace the 2.5 with a 3.0 engine at the same time. The sound is great, much more responsive and greater rasp. I've kept my centre section cats on the car so hopefully they will be enough to pass emissions test. I left the post cat lambda sensors unplugged and their is no check engine light on.
