Sounds like it may be your actuator then. Have you tried removing the door panel to see what happens when you press the button from the remote, as well as the button from the center console? If it was a cable out of place you would still see some movement.

Now I have this issue as well -- the remote works intermittently, and the passenger door did not unlock this morning (even via inside door handle). From what I understand, there are at least two unrelated problems with doors -- one is the actuators, and another is the "body control module" AKA "GM5". Here is a great write-up of the GM5 problem: http://www.revoxremotes.com/BMW/BMW_GM5.htm. New GM5 is $350, plus from what I understand it needs to be "programmed" by the dealership (figure additional couple hundred $, I guess). The guy who did the write-up promises to fix the thing for $100.

DUDES, the center console lock/unlock button is dirty, clean it or get a new one for around $40. problem solved.
it is not the actuator, its years and years of coffee and juice and water spilled on the console button, when that switch goes bad, it fux the entire central locking system up.

This would be the third unrelated problem then. :) There definitely were people who got their problem resolved by fixing/replacing GM5...

I am not saying that the problem you describe does not exist (or is not common). All I am saying is that it is not the only problem with doors failing to lock/unlock. The actuators ARE crap, and relays in GM5 DO fail...

Are there any pics/steps on how to check/clean it?

(I suspect that it's probably rather straightforward, but since my mechanical skillz generally don't go beyond changing lightbulbs and fuses, I have to ask for directions :) )

A quick update: I do, for a fact, have a faulty GM5 (a.k.a "GM V") -- a mechanic read the error codes of the "central locking computer", and there were errors specifically saying that relays in GM V module failed sporadically.

And another update -- I sent my GM for repair, and got it back in two days. The locks work fine now. To me, this was totally worth a benjamin.

To recap -- if you have problems with your door locks not locking/unlocking properly, there is a chance you have a "GM 5" (a.k.a "GM V") issue described at http://www.revoxremotes.com/BMW/BMW_GM5.htm. If you do, in fact, have this kind of problem, Scott does indeed fix it.

so are the door locks basically inoperable when the GM5 is out?

Yes. Better make sure that you unlock the doors you want to use before getting the GM5 out. Also, neither windows (nor the roof, if you have a 'vert) work. Most importantly, though, note, that windshield wipers do not work at all (while headlights are, strangely, unaffected). BTW, Scott mentions all this on his page.

Did I mention interior lights, parking distance sensor, power seats and remote trunk opening?

To tell you the truth, I did not try to lock the driver's door while GM5 was out (did not want to push my luck :)). The second door needed to be unlocked anyway, so it did not make any difference from the "security" point of view.

Seriously though, the only thing that can really bite you is the windshield wipers. If you get into rain on a highway, it's not fun (RainX might be an option for places where it's guaranteed to rain every day).

Dammit... I knew getting the keyhole delete mod on my coupe would come back to bite me in the ass someday. :tsk:

So I would essentially have to climb through my trunk until I get the GM5 back?

....fack.

(I got the same issue. Drivers side will lock but not unlock, although I can hear the unlock process happening it just never pops up. Passenger side is getting slow to pop. Sometimes it comes halfway and I have to lock and unlock again to pop it.)

Did anyone have problems taking the GM5 out? It looks simple & easy here but a local BMW Indy told me that it is very difficult.

Can someone share his or her experience on removing these??

Thanks in advance!
