I'm doing the 5 speed swap right now on my '01 330ci and wanted to know if I need a new brake reservoir that the clutch would now tie into or if I can alter the original reservoir from the automatic set up?

Ok, next question on doing the clutch line on the swap. Do I need to remove the gas peddle in order to route the steel line that goes from the clutch master cylinder to the flexible line that connects to the clutch slave cylinder line.
Thanks

Just pull the carpet back as far as possible, i had trouble getting that line to fit properly but I promise it works. A tip is to screw into into the master cylinder, and then mount the master cylinder. Just make sure the when pulling the line through that its all the way through before you mount it so you dont bend it.

I have a question, am doing a 5spd swap on my 330i within a week from now, I have most parts already, but I want to ask.
Is the guibo for the 330i same manual to auto? Reason for asking is RealOem only show one (96mm) and even in autoparts all I see is the (96mm), now I know the 330 came both manua and auto, so am assuming at this point they use the same. Am I correct?

Hey Chanman, thank you for the advice....do I need to pull out the gas peddle to get the carpet out and if so.....how do I get the gas peddle out :banghead:

Sorry for responding so late, but if I remember right i did not remove the gas pedal. I removed the trim piece that is on the floor, which the door closes onto. Then pulled it back from that point as far as i could

clutch switch wiring

Just finished the swap on my '01 330ci vert. Thanks for the info! All to do now is code.
A few things I did different.
1. I only used the master cylinder clutch switch. I wired it up as posted and everything works as it should. Cruise, start and both brake and clutch stop the cruise.
2. Reverse light connection.
I ran a wire from the switch on the tranny to ground. (Does not matter which one) and the other to the DME box under the hood. In the box toward the front of the car is the reverse light relay. It's blue. If you take the relay out and disconnect the plug you can see it has 4 wires connecting to it. The wire you need is the brown/black one. I cut it and connect the other wire from the tranny switch to it. So when you shift into reverse it completes the circuit by connecting the relay switch to ground. Just like the automatic transmission unit did. My reverse lights and also my back up sensors work like they should.
The only thing not working is the mirror tilt in reverse. Which I never liked anyway.

Hi, when you say that you "wired it up as posted" can you send me the post that gives you the directions on how to wire it up?

Thanks

Check step 9, go with the clutch switch module one. I do not have the 3 pin switch in mine. It mounts on the side of the master cylinder and it tells you where to put each wire. Also check out the diy write up from ivegotissues666. His 6-speed swap is wired the same way

Hello, so about a year ago I did this swap and just bridged my auto wiring harness to get the car to start, i dont care about the lights on the dash so I never recoded it. But I'm going to buy the active autowerke tune for it with headers and was wondering if the tune would conflict with it not being recorded. Does the engine run differently when its coded to a manual? I'm confident i can code it myself, its just all the instructions online are sort of confusing and hard to follow.

Will this work for recoding it to a manual? I'm probably going to buy a Simon 3 cable to apply the tune myself and didnt know if i could do it with that or if i have to have a GT1. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Chandler

SA Coding

So, I am trying to figure out exactly how to use SSS to recode for this swap.
2001 330ci with MS43

I have been searching around in this thread, but aside from the original post (which isn't complete in regards to the SA code), I can't really find a detailed set of instructions. Is it in this thread somewhere?

Can we start a separate thread?

Should I just try using NCS? Will an INPA cable work for that?

edit: I don't have a windows machine capable of running NCS :/
