Hi I'm considering getting a friend to change the oil on my E46 323 Coupe.
Does anyone know which oil BMW recommends, and also which filters? Every major oil company eg. BP, Shell, Castrol, Caltex, Mobil, Valvoline have their own oil so I am a bit stumped as to what to buy!
A quick interrogation of the "lube guide" of the above companies:
Valvoline suggest "Synpower 5W-40 motor oil"
Valvoline SynPower is available in two viscosity grades being 5W/40
and 10W/50. Both products meet latest API SL/CF ratings.
Castrol suggest "CASTROL TXT SOFTEC PLUS"
Apparently Meets the stringent BMW Longlife Oil specification. SAE 5W-
30, API SJ/CF, ACEA A3/B3/B4
Castrol also suggest "CASTROL FORMULA SLX"
Super low viscosity, full synthetic engine oil formulated to deliver
more power from your engine. Approved by Porsche, BMW, Mercedes Benz,
Audi and Jaguar. SAE 0W-30, API SJ/CF, ACEA A3/B3.
Caltex/Ampol suggest "HAVOLINE SYNTHETIC"
Mobil suggest "Mobil 1 0W-40" or "Mobil 1 5W-50"
Shell suggest "Shell Helix Ultra 15W-50"
BP suggest "Visco 5000"
Thanks.
