yea you need a diagonistic tool or drop by autozone or a bmw mechanic. i went to autozone and they have the generic one and showed up nothing when i still had the check engine light. went to bmw mechanic and it turned out to be camshaft sensor.

That doesn't look like a P code, the 168, it lookes like a BMW code, in which case it is:

P0128 168 Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)

Just FYI: The codes mean different things for different ECUs, Creation Date, and Engine...

I believe the either the May or July issue of the Roundel has an extensive article about the different scanners out there. It was a good read!
