Progress today:
  • Removed all the bolts on the valve cover, and all the ignition coils, so it's ready to come out.
  • Disconnected the electrical juntion box in front of the throttle body,
  • Removed the idle control valve, and
  • Removed the throttle body.
  • Researched and ordered a few parts, so will have to wait for them to arrive.
  • Cleaned Throttle Body
  • Cleaned Idle Control Valve (ICV)

Throttle Body Before (not bad on the back)
Camera lens Digital camera Cameras & optics Circle Film camera

Gas Fixture Auto part Door Metal

Throttle Body After:
Camera accessory Camera lens Metal Film camera Lens

Automotive lighting Automotive tire Camera accessory Rim Gas

Took awhile but got it clean. used throttle body cleaner, degreaser, and a bathroom shower cleaner to try to get the grime off the outside. Used the scrubbing side of the sponge to help.

just completed my 330ci 5 speed swap from the autotragic slushbox. 5 years of driving as an auto, its nice having a third pedal again. will take a bit to get muscle memory for clutch. i do like the trans rattle with the lightweight flywheel 😁

now to get the damn software working again, i coded the auto out but in doing so it reset the light control and now my fogs dont stay on with brights... and trying to recode didnt work... so i reinstalled the software and now i get a chassis faulty error trying to connect ncs expert...

Member jjrichar tore an ICV down. He suggested using a small amount of engine oil after cleaning, as it could use a little lubricant. Drop it in, shake it around, then blow it out. Search for the thread, way more details than I've posted.

When your 21 years & 270,000+ miles. Your hard pipes probably need changing, so why not everything else that's a hose, pipe or vaccum line. Motor mounts and rebuilt injectors as well.
Could it really do a 1/2 mill? Original auto tyranny and engine.

Motor mounts are not done while you are in there for the hoses and manifold. In fact you have to lift the whole engine to get to the motor mounts, it's a totally different job. But the oil pan gasket also needs to lift the engine, so might as well replace the motor mounts while you are doing the oil pan gasket; otherwise, if you are replacing the hoses, no need to replace motor mounts because that's a different job.

Agreed, but the car was on jackstands already, ample room, hydraulic jack on the oil pan, 4 nuts and done. I'll get the tyranny mounts done when I do the oil pan gasket. Also had 2 new VDO injectors and 4 refurbished injectors dropped in.

Do you have an engine lift? Because you have to lift the whole engine properly, takes the right equipment, a big chain on a thing that lifts it, in order to get to the mounts.

Jobs done. I do have an engine support bar from Harbor Freight to use when I do my oil pan gasket. However, for motor mounts it's easier to just loosen the top bolts, raise the engine with an hydraulic or scissor jack with a plywood cushion, do the driver side mount, snug it down. Then re-raise the engine and do the right side. Otherwise the right side doesn't want to raise high enough to clear. The engine is weighted to the right, and the oil pan support is not centered weight wise. I've done it 3 times and this, by far, was the easiest and fastest way. No fighting to get the top of the right side bracket over the mount stem.
It's literally a 30 minute job, once the cars on jackstands, 2 bolts each side. But I don't live in a rust belt.

Do you have a writeup on the oil pan gasket?

Last weekend I replaced all 4 shocks and installed some eibach sportline springs.
Today I put some tyres onto my 5 series style 32s (f17x8 et20 r17x9 et26)
And put them on the 330i and I'm pretty stoked with the result.
Thought I'd get it looking right before attacking the preventative maintaince that is due. (Done 137xxxkms and have no service records so need to start at the start...)

I hope those struts work out OK with the lowering springs. It does look good, but skimping on maintenance will have it looking good sitting in your driveway/garage broken.

Thanks for the positivity.
Yeah should be bilsteins but the front shocks were leaking so needed replacing and didn't have Bilstein money at this time. Will get there eventually.
And I wouldn't call it skimping. Shocks needed replacing so ticked that off first. CCV ofhg and valve gaskets are next on the list. Only had the car 2 months...

Koni SRTs (Orange) are a decent upgrade with your mild lowering, and are about half the price of Billys, so they won’t break the bank.

Had a super bad miss fire on the M3 and found out i had a 1 bad coil. Checked maintenance history from previous owners didnt notice any spark plug replacements nor coils, so i decided to replace all 6 coils and spark plugs. Ordered the kit from FCP euro which was relatively cheap considering its an M3.
Now its running great!
