Where in BMW Scanner 1.4 do you code for a Removable Hardtop? A screenshot of the page would be nice.

I don't think there is an option on BMW Scanner 1.4 to code it.

However with NCSExpert / NCSDummy there is an option for:

HARDTOP_ERKENNUNG - Hardtop Detection
nicht_aktiv
aktiv

You want to set it to aktiv.

You could check the CVM in BMWScanner and see if there is coding options, but I don't think there is (afaik)

I haven't used BMW Scanner in several years but when I did, I have a recollection of seeing 'Hardtop Activation' as an option - somewhere. I would think that if I can turn off the DRL's in BMW Scanner, I should be able to activate the Hardtop option.

Not all coding options are present in BMWScanner.

Check the CVM in BMWScanner and see if there is coding options to disable or enable it.

My recollection of BMW Scanner and accessing the CVM was that it shows errors and allows for clearing them only. I'm almost certain that coding for an installed Hardtop is going to be in another location, likely in the ZKE 3 Coding section under 'Equipment and Options'. But I'm also thinking that a screenshot of that page for a non-Cabriolet model isn't going to show it.

It's going to be in the CVM Module, it might be possible the developer of BMWScanner didn't add the option for CVM Coding.

-> Its like in the LCM where you can't code Brake Force Display, Triple Blink, Double Flash Hazards, Fog Lights w/ High Beams in BMW Scanner. You have to use NCSExpert to enable those.

The GM Module (ZKE) has nothing to do with the hardtop.

Here is the CVM Module (NCSExpert/NCSDummy)

If you'd like I can double check for you on my vert with BMWScanner. However, I don't think its possible.

I'll add you to my Christmas card list if you could do that.

Not necessarily. DRLs are in the LCM while hardtop is in the CVM.
BMW Scanner has mixed support for various modules. I mainly use INPA and NCS Expert as they fully support all modules.

Same here.

At-least you are able to see all the modules with NCSExpert/NCSDummy.

As for reading errors, ISTA is my go-to.
I took a look @All2kool, and you cant code the CVM from BMW Scanner. You'll need to use NCSExpert.

OK, thanks.

As the coding only disables the folding top buttons and turns off the folding top defroster, I'll probably not even bother.

I mean its not too hard to use NCSExpert to swap coding in & out.

How do you code with NCS Expert? Laptop and a Cable? I have a Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 10 laptop and the OBDII to USB Cable for BMW Scanner. Or is a Smartphone and an ELM327 Module needed?
@Bali

Did a great tutorial on how to get started.

I can remotely help you out too.

I gather the OBDII to USB Cable for BMW Scanner isn't gong to work is it? Not that $25 for another Cable is a deal breaker.

Correct.

You need a K+DCAN Cable.

Recently the Amazon Cables have been hit or miss. I recommend grabbing BimmerGeek cable, its a bit more pricey, but its definitely more reliable then a hit or miss china cable.

In reality, I'd only want to stop the folding top defroster from coming on as I am certain I'm never going to try and raise the roof with the the Hardtop on.

I'd be great if removing fuse #68 accomplished that but I'm guessing that will disable the Hardtop defroster as well.

Just do it right, instead of pulling a fuse.

Its a good investment to have, considering you can read fault codes, and diagnose issues in the future.

I get where you're coming from but in all honesty, why should I spend $65 for something I may use ONCE when pulling a fuse could work?
