I think my clutch is going. Does anyone know how much it is to replace the clutch? Should I take it to the dealer? (Don't they rip you off?) I have a 2002 BMW M3

lol. No. With BMW, nothing expensive is covered. Especially a clutch.

If the dealership is going to screw you out of a clutch job, find a good independant mechanic and put in a lightweight flywheel while you are in there. As soon as the trans has to come out of my touring, a UUC aluminum flywheel and M5 clutch are going in.

If the vehicle has the FULL MAINTENANCE program, the the clutch is covered.

If not you're looking at $600-$1200 for a clutch and flywheel replacement. You will be looking at more than $1200 if your car has SMG and if so, only the dealer can do it or an independant shop that has a DIS GTI computer.

Clutch replacement is 199 US for the whole clutch kit.

and it should be 4 hour labour at dealership.

BMW Dealers here will charge 10hrs give or take on a clutch R&R if its a customer pay job. 4hrs is what BMW Warranty pays the dealer and technician.

You have a 2002 car right? Bring it to the dealer, it should be covered. And how'd you get your clutch to wear out soo fast?

I've had it for a year and three months. I have 15000 miles on it. I don't drive it THAT crazy. Just medium crazy.

I feel the clutch catching on a little late. Also, there's a sort of clunking noise from the tranny.

My dealer quoted me $1800 to replace the clutch (no that doesn't include replacing/resurfacing the flywheel). So unless you get it covered under warranty (which you should be able to) take it to an independant mechanic. Mine quoted me 6-7 hours @ 60 + Parts cost (probably under 300) That al together is around $700. Since it will be so much cheaper, splurge on LW flywheel of your choosing.

to put in a clutch it would take

around 10 hrs labor plus another 500.00 for the cost of a clutch
better off get a race track and street clutch combo. but the total
with labor will be around 1,500.00.
