Clips and fasteners hell

OK. I've literally searched for this part for over a week and I give up. I can find the partition but not the part number for the clip that holds it. Every fastener and clip kit I've seen does NOT have this particular clip. Any ideas out there? It's the clip/fastener for this partition BMW Bulkhead Engine Compartment Top Left - Genuine BMW 51718202799

It looks like this as a reminder

Just go buy some hex head self tappers and some spring clips. I replaced all mine last year no problem. See attached. I can't remember what size I used but I just bought three different sizes #6, #8 and #10. Same with the screws They are as cheap as chips. No 10 did the trick I think. Certainly a lot cheaper than those "quick release" originals which are a ridculous price. The screws in the pic are posidrive. I swapped them for the equivalent hex head later.

Aaaaaarrrgghhhh! So I just needed the correct term. Thanks. I couldn't even find that on RealOEM exploded diagrams
When I get lost like that I search on ECS of fcp for any pics in the same assembly, like windshield coal, get that part number, then search for it on realoem. That usually gets me on the right diagram to find the fastener
For others who may find this thread. The nearly identical fastener, PN 51718215962, appears to have a different length and is not interchangeable for above.

That's how I found it.

I took the part number that you provided and that led me here, and from there you see your part called out as #15. See parts #16 and 17 circled? That indicates the fasteners required for that part and you refer down to the fastener box at the bottom of the drawing.

When I lost mine to the engine bay, I went to the dealer to get one. It took the kid at the parts counter a solid 45m to find it. Needless to say, I bought 4-5 of em just so I don't have to go through that BS again.
More fastener fun. Here's the link on RealOEM to the belly pan/splash guard (which they call an Engine Compartment Screening!). I have been trying to ID the fastener or clip that attaches the splash guard to the bumper assembly. This doesn't appear to mention the fastener number. Anyone have a clue? I need to replace both front fender liners and while I'm in there I want to get the bumper fastened properly. Thanks.

Todd, just a suggestion, and no affiliation, but visit one of these places:

https://www.lkqpickyourpart.com/locations/LKQ_Pick_Your_Part_-_Nashville-218/
https://www.pullapart.com/locations/nashville/

Pay the entrance fee (it was $3 at LKQ) and get all the fasteners/clips you want. The local yard had 9 (!) E46s on the lot.

Amazing. I never even thought of this option. Do I have to bring the tools? They let you take the parts off? Or are the big things already scavenged and on shelves? This could be a game changer!
It's nice to have the right part but a lot of those parts are going up in price or are absurd considering human eyeballs will never see them in normal circumstances. I bought this clip kit on ebay with like 200 clips of various sizes for like $8. you'll never need to look up part #s for $3 clips again. friend comes by with a sagging part due to missing clip? no problem. it's fun. insta-fix!

I love them so much. It's like a treasure hunt. Definitely one of my happy places. :craig:

You take off whatever you want. Close-toed shoes and nobody under 16 on the lot. Yes just bring a toolbox. They'll have a quick look through it when you go in, and check it again when you leave to make sure you didn't sneak anything out. LKQ provided loaner wheelbarrows too. If you tell them what you're looking for, they'll print you out a slip that shows the location of all the cars on the lot.
Policies differ, but it's common that you can take any fasteners possibly faintly associated with a part you buy. Some yards post a $1 charge for bolts, but they only charge that if you are walking out with a bag full of bolts and nothing else.

When I was new to boneyards, I tried to buy a fuel injector spring clip. They looked at me like I was joking. Then a few trips later I was behind a guy trying to shoplift a brake rotor. A large brake rotor, down the front of his saggy pants. They just sent him back to drop it off. That helped me realize their.. challenges and concerns. It's not a few fasteners in a bag. They weren't expecting to sell those anyway. They make money on the big parts within a few weeks, and then selling the rest as scrap. (Less the latter, now that steel is worth far less.) You shouldn't feel guilty gathering up a handful of obscure screws and clips when you are buying parts.

Most of the people picking parts in the yard are doing it semi-commercially. They are fixing the big problems in cars they are flipping, or pulling parts for low-end shops that will charge the customer for 'refurbished' parts. Others know a bit about the eBay demand for frequently broken parts and leap on freshly arriving cars for those. Only a small fraction are "hobbyists" there to find the perfect trim piece or to replace a missing clip on their own cars.

What kind of car was said saggy pants thief stealing a rotor for? Yikes!

A note on buying old clips, they may be sun baked and brittle

Just got back. Hot as hell! Not as scary as I thought out there in the yard but, damn, those cars are picked over! Everything I needed was already gone or destroyed. Both belly pans were shredded. I did get two aluminum skid shield 16mm M10 bolts though. They're over $19 on FCPEuro! I'm wondering why. I saw that I was missing one and I understand that element is a structural one, so I needed to replace it. Also scored a perfect lower alternator air boot. Total of $1.06. Crazy. I set up alerts on texts for my model and year. It's not far and pretty easy with all the cars already up on "lifts." Great recco. Thanks.

You're welcome! Yeah the cars do get picked over pretty quickly, and when I went on Saturday the heat was unbearable; it was in the mid-90s. So I can relate.

One of the other great things about the you-pull-it yards is that you get to see cars in various states of disassembly---so it's educational also. Like there was an E46 on the lot with its intake manifold removed (mine's not been off yet), so I got to see what the motor mount on that side looks like and the heater pipes, etc. If it had been cooler I would have done more picking, but I kind of wanted to get what I needed and get someplace air-conditionned... Heh.

I just bought some of these:

51 11 8 174 185 Expanding Rivit

I have heard some models have different fasteners here, but in my LCI experience they all use this originally between the belly pan / splash guard and bumper cover.
