OK so my service engine light is on due to MAF going bad, so i purchased a new MAF and installed it and plugged it in but the car still hesitates and shuts off and i cant reset the service engine light.. what could i be doing wrong? or how do i really reset the engine light to make my car run again or what else should i check

the car is a 01 325i

An ODBII code reader will be able to turn it off. Question is if there is another code that can only be read by a GT1 or Peake reader. That happened to me when my crankcase position sensor went bad. Replaced it and turned off the light and it stayed off but the car ran like crap. NO new codes on my generic reader.. Took it to a local BMW shop and their reader saw 4 more codes. Cleared those and ran fine since.
