So I’ve used carb cleaner to clean my throttle body. After that I saw a video where the guy says that it damages your throttle body and you will end up getting fault codes. After reading a bit more carb cleaner supposedly removes a film on it.

But I’m also seeing videos and reading posts where they use carb cleaner.

Should I worry about this?

I have read the same, that it can remove a film that’s on the butterfly (Teflon maybe?). Since you’ve already done it not much to be done now, I’d use it and see if there are any issues, if there are issues you’ll have a good idea where to look.

For the throttle body?

Nah, it'll be OK. I guess in theory it could get into the motor drive via the shaft seal, but
I'll bet it hasn't. I've used pretty aggressive cleaners on throttle bodies, and I haven't had problems.

On the MAF? Yeah, it can damage the sensing element.
Since it's done, try it and see what happens. If you get odd
fuel codes, try another (used, from the junkyard) sensor and see if that resolves it.

Ok thank you. The flap inside doesn't sit in a 90 degree angle perpendicular to the throttle body. It slightly "open". Open might not be the right word, you can't see through it or anything, but it's just has a little slant. Is that how it's supposed to be?

If the engine idles and accelerates properly then I wouldn’t worry about it. The flap will normally be open a little bit when the engine is at idle.

Yep, it sits open just a crack so that it doesn't wedge in the bore.
Which means that combustion junk fills that gap up, which annoys the DME and
transition down to idle suffers because there's less idle bypass air than
the DME expects...
