Clutch is origional w/ 85K miles and curious what you feel the engagement point have to do with it? But for shitsngiggles I'd say first is commonly around 2k rpm

Maybe its a miss understanding but, atleast in my situation, the jerky accel happens while cruising not starting from a stand still. Mine was more noticable on a 1,100 mile trip where when enter interstate on onramp and while passing, etc, I could feel the car...jerk, hiccup, slip, repetative hesitation from ~2,800-3000 and I also only really noted it in 3rd, 4th and 5th.

EDIT: Maybe to elaborate a bit more, its not right after engaging a gear, I can be cruising in 3rd for a while uner ~2,800 RPM, go to accelerate and see experience the "jerks"
Engagement point is when you feel more load on the clutch pedal.

If you usually let your clutch fully engage all the way up at 2k rpm then you clutch is worn out and its slipping.

Maybe I'm getting confused here. I "dump" the clutch at ~2K some (while driving spirited, which I do often), normal boring driving I'd have to guess but I'd say just I rev just north of 1K to start from a stop. Granted both RPM values are an complete estimate as I often don't watch them, maybe its not 2k.

Also, define a little bit more in depth what it is you are calling "engagement point". Are we talking how far you release the clutch pedal before you feel the increased load? I know my clutch is not slipping, checked that during prepurchase test drive and once since. Can't wrap my head around what else you could mean though...

That's exactly what was happening to me. I showed it to my SA at the dealer (gave him a ride). Convinced him to do a DME update and the issue was fixed completely. I do have a ZHP though fwiw.

I have a 2004 ZHP, and I have this same problem with jerky acceleration from 2500 - 3000 RPM. Like others have mentioned, it's more pronounced when going uphill. In basically any gear, if I accelerate between 2500 and 3000 RPM, the car bucks like it's misfiring. The car has done this since I bought it 3 years ago at 32K miles, and it doesn't seem to have any other problems.

I have a 2001 330xi and mine will get jerky between 2000-3000rpm only in 2nd and 3rd, and only when I let off the accelerator... My car is automatic so I'm hoping it's not tranny related.

hi fellas, got the same issue with jerky accel around 2500-3000rmp in higher gears (without any kind of clutch engagement/disingagement, just during normal cruising). Although I don't have a ZHP, mine is s 2004 330ci 6spd.
Its not too bad so far so I'm just living with it, but I'll look into reprograming the O2 values and see if that helps

my 2001 330Ci had begune a similar slight jerk/buck but only when cold and on a downhill/level part throttle or letting off the throttle (it was very annoying) and i was going to change the plugs and then an unrelated problem had me disconnect the battery for a while and now my problem has went away so far. YMMV

update: changed the VANOS seals, spark plugs, VCG, car still jerks between 2.5-3K RPM.. not sure where to go from here
Did you get the ECU/DME updated? I had the same problem and had my DME updated last week at JB Eurotech and it completely cured the miss between 2800 and 3000 rpm in the higher gears and just feels stronger overall. I also tried the Vanos rebuild first since it didn't require me to drive 400 miles but it didn't make any difference. It wasn't a specific update like throttlehead mentions, it was just an update to the latest software version.
