Yes, works fine even on the same 7" wheels. These are the same overall diameter so they are not lower profile, but are wider. No change in speedo or other instrumentation.

Are there any issues with fender clearance (real or visual)? I don't want the tires to look like they're bulging too much from the wells.

225/50R16 is only about an inch wider, not too aggressive for 7" wheels as far is fitting in the fenders is concerned. This is a common upgrade.
