I know M54s burn oil but very recently I am burning a lot.
I have had "minimal" oil consumption; probably a quart every 3500 miles but I topped off a month ago, and it has burned at least a quart and a half. I am unsure of the mileage, but I know it has been under 1k miles.

I have not changed my driving style. I did a 1,300-mile round trip in July. I believe I burned a little oil on that trip when I checked, but not enough to even need to top off.
The engine has 117k. I have not done the 02 pilot mod or any engine flushes yet.

Any idea why all of the sudden it starts burning a lot of oil?

I have been reading other threads about oil consumption and besides carbon build-up, I am not sure why it would start burning excessive amounts of oil. And no, I don't baby the car, it sees high RPMs often enough to "hopefully" not get carbon build-up.

One of the other causes of high oil consumption is a blocked CCV drain hose or the dipstick tube that it drains through. The oil from the CCV can't get back into the oil sump/pan, builds up and gets sucked back into the inlet manifold. There are 2 models of dipstick tube, with the later one designed to fix the problem.

I did the open the oil cap while running the test and there was a slight suction. Like almost nothing. The revs increased just a little after I pulled the cap off. I also have no mayo on the oil cap or any sludge at all.

Right now, I feel the piston rings have carbon on them more than a CCV failure.

So... I don't know what has happened but it seems I haven't been burning much oil now. I haven't been driving it a lot but I haven't seen the dip stick lose any oil.

The only thing that I did to "maybe" fix this issue, I removed the CCV drain line and put it back on. That's it.

Also my oil sensor is going bad as well.
