Ok so waaaay down the road (read: next spring) I'd like to venture into a nice brake kit.

So my first question would be, how much clearance (generally) do you need to fit some of the kits?

say you have 17" rims, would 13" brake kit fit? 18"/14"? Like in general, how many inches would you need clearance between the listed size of the kit and your rims?

you know.. it all comes down to a lot of factors, which wheels you talking about, which brand of bbk

there is always uncertainty and you can't really put a general rules, like 19" acs rims can't even fit 14" without spacers, 19" bbs rgr can't clear bbk as well

but generally speaking 13" should fit with 17" rims (might require spacer)

so the best way to answer this question is... give us your choice of rims and bbk that you want, and we'll tell you if it fits or not

yeah i understand that

my current summer rim are 17" SSR GT1s and I'd look at a stoptech/brembo ~13" kit, or some kinda kit like that. I was going to assume that they'd fit on 17's, but I'm a brake novice at this point so here I am.

i was not aware that brembo has a 13" application for e46, so u are stuck with the stoptech if you want to go with 13"

13" will definitely fit your 17 but you'll probably need a spacer, something like 5mm should do
