Discussion Starter #2 (Edited)
Working with TurnerMotor Sport/ECS Tuning, hopefully this nightmare gets resolved. (Not resolved) DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

First before I start I would like to go over a few things. This review/data I am giving out only pertains to 330i ZHP or 330's running MS45.1 software.

My car is a 2003 330i ZHP 6 speed manual

Claims of from Turner Motorsport are the following from their website.

This year I decided to kickstart my NA build and had a baseline dyno done at a local tuning shop. My car is stock.

Here are my first 3 baseline pulls. (Ignore that blip my foot slipped for a second on the first pull)

1 - 194 WHP/191WTQ
2 - 194WHP/195WTQ
3 - 197WHP/198WTQ

Fast forward and I purchased the Shark Injector a few months ago, when it popped up on sale.

I installed the software following the directions to the letter. The lights on the Shark Injector confirmed the install was successful. My first impression post install were "meh". I felt no change in power, throttle response felt the same, and for some reason the redline was not changed (Hmmm). My first thoughts about all of this was maybe I was expecting too much. The claim of 14hp/11tq is only a 7% increase in power which is small enough that you won't feel it. Most of the time people won't feel a power bump unless its 10%+. So I was like "ok" let's get this on the dyno (same exact dyno, same exact settings, same gas, tire pressure, everything was the same period) so I can see the increase and get on with the rest of my built. I was expecting a bump of 8-9WHP what the dyno told me was shocking. I lost power (WTF) and low and behold the redline didn't change, had anything for the Shark Injector(MS45.1) worked it would have changed to 6920k.

4 - 189 WHP/192WTQ
5 - 190WHP/190WTQ
6 - 186WHP/192WTQ

Note: Airfuel ratio is missing from the first pull. They didn't have the sniffer connected :(

It's always great to see lower numbers from a tune

My next move while I was at the same dyno session was to remove the Shark Injector tune per the instructions given with the unit. It takes about 10-15 minutes to remove, again the device confirmed removal of the software.

Guess what...I gained power back with the stock BMW tune. You could also say there was no change, but it's it a far cry from the 14hp/11tq Turner Motorsport has on their website.

7 - 191 WHP/196WTQ
8 - 193WHP/193WTQ
9 - 186WHP/190WTQ

So lets break this down, here is what the Turner MotorSport website says Shark Injector(MS45.1) will improve.

Unlock the torque and horsepower - Loss of power/No gain
Smoother engine with less hesitation - No change
Improved Throttle response - No change from stock
Rev Limit increased to 6920 - Nope mine was at 6840
Installs in minutes - Yep, that was normal

Note: I was running OBDFusion on a pull down the street testing the new Rev Limitor and found this little nugget. That's me hitting the redline with the Shark Injector Installed on my car.

So Turner Motorsport/ESC Tuning has cost me $265 dollars in wasted dyno time. They have my receipts as proof.

My advice would be to not purchase the Shark Tune for a MS45.1 330i or 330i ZHP save your money. Not only will your time and money be wasted on a dyno, but Turner Motorsport/ECS Tuning is not willing or able to rectify the problem. I need to be repaid in full for my wasted dyno time period. Turner Motorsport/ECS Tuning should pull the product off their website and stop selling it so that others don't make the same mistake I did.

It gets better not only did they say I would be given store credit(Which is a total joke) for my wasted dyno time but now because of this post they are only willing to give me $165 out of the $265 I paid. The only silver lining is I did get my money back for the tune itself. If you purchased the Shark Injector tune and have not used it I would call back today and get your money back.

Did you ever flash the DME with the most current BMW firmware before installing the Shark Injector??

Do the folks using the dyno have the ability to overly the ignition timing curve on the HP and Torque curve? If they did, they might be surprised what they find!

You posted a title, but you have made no comments about your claim..

I dont believe this is true!

Why didnt you post pictures of your dyno runs? Etc.

Not sure I'd call this a 'nightmare' although I didn't pay for the software either. You've been on here long enough to know that software gains on this car/motor are minimal at best. Do you have a stock motor or have you made other mods? Did you inform TMS/ECS if you made any mods? As you know, Jim Conforti has been doing this a long time and is well respected with results to prove it but if he doesn't know what he is starting with the results can be less than desired.

Hope you get it dialed and please provide the dyno results so we can all see what you are seeing.

Yea, need more info, just post the dyno sheets since you have them.

Or maybe the software didn't flash. Did you buy a used one?

Dyno results can be misleading at best without back up data.

I would want dyno results with the following overlaid: Ambient Temp, Humidity, Intake Air Temp, Engine Coolant Temp and Ignition Timing. IMHO without at least these items, I would say even a few pulls from the same session could vary and if the additional data is available then this could help explain variations.

I also do not like A-B comparisons from different days on the dyno.

Lots of variables that need to either be controlled and/or corrected for or to at least understand the different conditions the tests were performed under.

As for using the Shark injector, you REALLY need to update the stock DME software to the latest DME software BEFORE using the Shark injector. BMW has screwed up ignition timing Maps for the original DME flash and tools like the Shark injector tweak the timing stock ignition timing Map, so understand that Garbage In = Garbage Out!!

I bought my shark injector less than 45 days ago, it is new, I would like you to confirm me before I install it. Maybe it's a problem with your vehicle and not the shark injector?

Not so much of a bombshell. More of a mild 'really'?

Indeed. Lots of variables. Even how the car is strapped down can make a difference. I'd assume only being a software change the car never left the dyno. It's important that the fluids all be at operating temp.

I'm going to assume all things were done right and suggest we all need to wait for things to play out. TMS/ECS are involved, so while this thread may be premature, let's not go off half-cocked. Lots of stuff needs to be divulged, including the stuff j posted.
