Hey I have a 2001 e46 330i and I pulled a code 68 for the tank venting valve and was wondering what the hell this was for exactly and how I should go about fixing it, along with that I pulled misfires which I am in the process of replacing the cylinder head and I also pulled a 125 for the cooling fan circuit, any info on these codes would be greatly appreciated particularly the code 68 for the tank venting valve, thank you guys in advance

From the Bentley manual:
68
EVAP system, purge control valve circuit
Output digital pulse width (active low)
DME final stage will set flag whenever a short to ground, a short to battery voltage or a disconnection between output transistor and component exists.

I didn't find the equivalent OBD code, but I suspect it is P0444. Your 68 code is set because the engine computer (DME) found an electrical fault with the evap purge valve (also called fuel tank breather valve), part #1 in this diagram.

Why are you replacing the cylinder head? Did the engine overheat?

Thanks man and yeah i had a problem with overheating and my coolant reservoir cracked open so I replaced that and then a few months later my car started misfiring then it started overheating a little after that so I took it to a mechanic and he told me I had a cracked head so now I'm just replacing the head along with new spark plugs and ignition coils(for the misfire) .. And I also noticed my fan in front of the radiator wasn't coming on pulled the codes and found that it was the cooling fan circuit so I'm looking into replacing that as well

ALWAYS perform an initial code check with a Generic OBDII tool. Even Pro level scan tools have a OBD/EOBD section that it quite often ignored and it should be the FIRST part of the tool that is used.

I do not have the Evap system and fuel tank venting fully committed to memory, but most systems have both a Purge and Vent valve, but I believe most of the E46 have the LDP (Leak Detection Pump) and Evap solenoid under the intake.

There may be a few variations on the E46 Evap system, I do not recall all the different options.
