i got 2 citations in the last week.. 1 traffic and 1 for parking.. i know i could have avoided them i had one of those radar detectors..

who uses them? also.. how accurate are they.. for radar detector owners.. have ya ever seen a cop close to you and the radar didnt even detect anything?

i've had those old uniden detectors.. and they would not even work well.. a cop was right behind me and it didnt do anything.

lastly.. i'm in CA.. and what do cops do .. if they see you have one of these things... thanks.

Passport 8500 without a doubt.

I drove around with my buddies V1 for a couple days and didnt like how "active" it was. Picked up every bank and gas station around. Thats just my opinion.

I had a cheap radio shack detector a few years ago wich was just incredible($120). Almost never went off except of course for when police was zapping. Saved my ass a bunch of times! Anyway I sold mine with my old car (wish i hadnt) and they dont sell them at RS anymore.

yea.. i was thinking of just getting a radar detector.. cause i hate getting tickets.. esp in downtown Los Angeles... cops are just sleazy and will pull ya over for anything.

maybe is should get 1 V1 and 1 8500. have two detectors working together.

you can program V1 to ignore X and K if its too sensitive for you. most new detectors come with them turned off and only pick up Ka and Laser. but you better watch out, some reports of cops using the older equipment because people are ignoring X and K and are getting zapped but old tech.

V1 is nicer cuz you get to see where the threat is and you can do stealth installs. Also works great in conjunction with lidatek and other jammers.

I just hardwired my V1 yesterday, havnt pick up a cop yet, but... i used my brothers and it is very sensitive. IT doest pick up everything but like some people said; it can be turned off.
I dont know if its worth the 400 dollar price tag, but Mike Valentine was willing to put his face to his name .. plus hes been doin it for 25 years and co founder of escort. So its good enuf for me

8500, is V1 really worth the extra $100? if you drive through advanced radar traps (multiple radar/laser sources at the same time) then maybe the V1 will help u out, but otherwise

8500 all the way!

That is actually a good point and I thought the same thing before I bought mine. 3 years later, I wouldn't switch to anything else, regardless of cost.

The "bogey counter" actually helps distinguish between false alarms and real traps. It takes a while to get comfortable reading the V1, but I know it well enough now to know exactly how it reacts when it is a false alarm like a grocery store and when it is a real trap...all from knowing the behavior of the unit and reading the "bogey counter", signal strength, and arrows simultaneously.
