With our aged cars, have many of you removed comprehensive and collision on your insurance? What made you decide? Any regrets?

Collision is good to eliminate when a car's value is easy for you to absorb. I can absorb a loss of a $5000 car pretty easily (good emergency fund and I have another car), but someone else might not be able to, so to them I might say keep collision. Comprehensive is nice to have if the deductible is low enough. It's pretty cheap and is useful for glass or hitting a deer or something. It does not pay out for something like getting backed into in a parking lot and they didn't leave a note.

I keep full coverage. It's an extra 75$ a year for me. Last year someone put a giant deep scratch on my trunk. I had it repainted for 100$ deductible. It was an 800$ repair. So my insurance has already paid for itself for another 6 years.

Plus if it does get totaled, I would rather get a check, than nothing but a broken car.

Another plus is if it does get totalled, get a check from the insurance, and if it's cheap enough to buy pack you can part it out and make more off it.

I plan on dropping everything except comprehensive on my e36 because it will spend the winter on blocks for repairs. I could probably drop that too and let my homeowners insurance cover it. My daughter's first car only had liability and regretted it after an accident that was her fault

Double check the homeowners policy. Mine specifically says it does not cover cars parked in a garage.

I keep full coverage on my cars. In fact, after the B30 swap is done and the interior is reupholstered, I think I'm going to get agreed value insurance since traditional insurance will be essentially worthless for the car.

I would drop everything but liability. The insurance industry uses services to value your car that are savage to e46s. In my estimate, they cut $1,500 because it was a manual, and the service said "Everyone hates manuals". If you have a $1k deductible and the insurance company won't value your car about $4,500, then it is not much to work with. And they like to total cars, so they will artificially inflate the cost to repair so that they just pay the "book value" less a bunch of deductions and then even if the car is repairable it is "salvage".

Yeah I do the bare minimum on my e46 as I keep an emergency fund to simply buy another one if that happens.

I have full everything on my z3 coupe though!

Please be careful with only having liability insurance for your car. As I recall, if your car gets stolen, you aren't covered.

I have comperehensive, partially because I couldn't get glass coverage without it (and from what I gather, glass for our cars isn't cheap).

Collision however was much more expensive than comprehensive, I forget the exact amount but it clearly wasn't worth it.

How is this possible?

Liability on a scooter is more than that!
It's about the same for me. I have 6 vehicles, a motorcycle, and a house all with the same company plus we have a policy linked to my in-laws old policy so it shows over 40 years of continued history. I looked into dropping coverage down to liability only for some of my cars and my agent explained that I would be saving less than $100 a year.

I'm 37, have an excellent driving record, have never been in a recordable accident, and I've been with them for 12 years.
Just to clarify, it's 75$ additional to the minimum requirement by law.

Knock on wood but should anything happen I could easily get almost any kind of replacement, so I don't see it being worth it. Saved a lot of money not having a car payment for 8 years.

I recently picked up my E46, so I dropped collision on my '06 E90 since it has 380,000 miles on it and it helped keep my premium going up by about $200 overall. I keep $100-deductible comprehensive on everything as you never know when Bambi will decide to step out in front of you. If I put the E90 into something then it's on me. The E90 usually costs me about $2K in repairs per year, so comprehensive keeps me covered if it gets totaled again by a deer.
