My 325ci no longer blows cold air...which is a shame because it's hot as balls in the car.
I'm assuming the freon needs to be recharged but I don't want to pay some db $200 if I can do it myself.
So any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

If your freon is gone it means you have a leek somewhere. You can try filling it up with a can from a local parts store but my guess is it will all just escape.

So how would I get to that area where there is a possible leek (could it be patched)
Any other reasons it wouldn't be cold other than the freon

you could have a leak on your condenser or one of the pipes. you can find out where the leak is while filling the new gas up. and replace the part accordingly

You can also go to a shop and they will add fluorescent die to spot the leak

Go to some indy, have them fill the freon and ask them to put some die in it. After that drive it for like 2 weeks and go back to them and they will be able to find it.
