I just want to thank Vince, Kris and the STL Crew!

You guys did a great job! Thanks for helping me out on the install! Finally got rid of my factory 4x4 option. :D
I love the drop. The ride is definately harder, but not harsh. Girls boobies will bounce more, but my teeth won't fall out. :D
I feel more of the road, not sheltered like driving my dads Lexus.

LOL!
Glad to hear you like the suspension. All you need now is an alignment.

Great Job Guys!

Great info and pics!

.Admins - You guys should think about putting info and pics into the FAQ or something, so others thinking of the Cup Kit will have a really good idea what to expect. Just a suggestion...

Can anyone who helped install the cupkit give a bit of advice on how to go about compressing the springs enough to fit on the ultra-short front shocks?

You should use two sets of spring compressors and a lot of elbow grease.

I installed my Cupkit with just handtools but we had air tools the 2nd time.

You just have to really compress the springs to get them to fit. It's as simple as that...there isn't any secret trick to getting them on.

A) So you do like the rougher ride.... about how much, by percent, do you think the ride is compare to stock ride.... I really like to know.. Cuz I don't want to loose that smooth ride..

B) How much was the cup kit for the sedan?

C) Don't you just hate the way almost everything on a BMW is Optional... lol..

I'm speaking from my experience.

The ride is about twice as stiff as stock if I had to put a measure on it.

The cupkit is about $600-650.

The H&R CupKit comes with aftermarket shocks.

ok then, answer me this... where do you put the compressors in order to get those springs compressed enough to fit on that short ass cupkit shock? Using the standard powerbilt thick screw compressor, I could not compress it even close to enough with the usual placement on coils (4 on one side, 3 on the other). I ended up adding another set of compressors to it and compressing it to the actual perch below, which got it low enough but crooked on one side so I couldn't get the cap on.

There is so little space between those top coils that it seems like the only way to get that thing compressed as much as it needs to go is to do it from the very edges, but of course that interferes with the cap and perch...

then later of course Karl decided that the part #s were wrong since they said E28 on them... not sure if that's right or not... what #s are on the shocks that you have? don't suppose you got any pics of those too while you were shooting comparisons :)

I've solved countless problems with installs, ranging from stubborn control arms, bolts that won't come off without twisting other things, etc, but even with extra compressors and lots of smart people, we couldn't get those springs onto those shocks for shinya's fronts... and if they're the right parts, I'll be really surprised.

Dave,

It can be done with screw-type compressors. It take a little experimenting but it will work. We used thress compressors in a triangular configuration and compressed the spring all the way down and put them on the strut and attached the spring hat with the supplied bolt. You have to slowly release the compressors and use a mallet to beat the compressor around the spring to get them off.

As far as the strut markings...mine said E28 on them and Dennis' kit said E47 and E48 so I'm not sure what those nomenclature means.

I wish I would have taken pictures of the front strut/spring install. That seems to be the biggest hang up for all the DIY's.
