I am planning on replacing the stock head unit (business cd) on my 2000 328ci. Will any aftermarket head unit (sony, alpine, pioneer, etc.) work with the H/K sound system? Do I need to buy any special parts?

Thanks for the help.

The "12 speaker" HK system is still a 4 channel system, just with twelve drivers. To install the headunit, you will need a dash kit and a wiring harness.

To do speakers, most 6.5" Component speakers should fit up front. Some large ones will require you to dremel a plastic ring down just a little. I have Alpine Type-X components in mine, and those are one of the largest baskets out there.

As for steering wheel controls, you can use a Pac SWIX to keep those. Cheers!
