Sometimes when it's really cold, I get the "add coolant" warning light when i first start up the engine then goes away within a minute or so.

Is this caused by the cold weather and can be ignored? or do I need to add extra coolant?

all cars burn a touch of coolant, or a touch leaks after a while, and BMWs are REAL SENSITIVE..add some (remember distilled water, not tap), it prob wont take much at all. If the warning quickly comes on again, then you want to bring it to a dealer or check for leaks.

check your coolant level...i got the same thing a couple times and investigated some more...the coolant level was low...just pop the hood..it's near the driver's side light...there is a floating marker inside...the top of the filler should be in between the two lines on the bobbing thing.
