I finally got my membership approved, it took 4 days not sure why glad to finally be able to post and reply to threads. I have come to believe that this is one of the most helpful forums out there for bmw's in general. Everyone on here is extremely helpful and dont mind answering the easiest of questions. Well first of all i have a few questions to ask about my car that i was hoping someone could help me with: :loco:
FYI: I have a 2002 e46 330ci black on black.

1. Solely when backing out of somewhere on an incline my car makes a strange noise that a car usually makes when there is low power steering fluid but when the mechanic checked my oil he checked the power steering fluid and said it was fine??????

2. when shifting gears my clutch gives back this sort of rubbing feel and my gearbox as well feels a little hard a budy of mine said it could the rubber in it (he said some proper word that i cant remember) but when I went to autozone I saw "manuel transmission fluid" could that be the problem? (i have a 5 speed if that makes any difference

3. Oil pressure light comes on when I turn on the car but after 3-5 seconds shuts off. Normal behavior?

4. Is there a way I can change or paint the chrome window trim black it looks really good, I already installed the black grilles!

Any help would be great, thanks!

P.S. I really am in love with my bmw but it has me really paranoid so any little noise I freak out, it has 92,802 miles.

your tranny for reverse is probably going out. this is a common issue with your model. i have same problem. best thing to do try not to reverse on steep hills and will prevent it from burning out
your oil sensor needs to be replaced. shoot [email protected] an email and ask for price. Until you get it replaced, check your oil manually every few days. You can remove the trim and have it professionally painted, but a cheaper alternative is to wrap them in vinyl. search, there's a website that a lot of members get them from.

you could try changing the transmission fluid and see if makes a difference. search for the proper fluid to use.

welcome :hi:
Wow thank you all, I will talk to my mechanic and send that guy an email. As for my reverse tranny is that expensive, and how the hell do I go about checking it?

I doubt it, reverse issue is only a known problem for automatics.

As for the rubbing issue, it may just be the way to gearbox is, or it could be oil like you suggested.

You can easily paint your window trim black, or you can vinyl it black using a product called bmw shadowline (thats what i did), for more info on these things try searching, there is a lot of info on it.

As for the oil light issue, the second poster is pretty much on the dot.
matt, the oil sensor is supposed to go on for a few seconds when you turn it on to show you that it's working! check your manual.

Thanks for that, I did read it but I saw a few threads and figured might as well ask its worth a shot..
OOOKKKKK... I just left my mechanic and he told me I needed an oil change because the prior owner put non synthetic oil in a BMW he quoted me $120.. Is that a good price or is it a DYI job again I am not to good with cars I'm fairly young.
my 2001 330ci lights comes on and shuts down after a few seconds... its a problem ONLY if it stays on or comes on when you shut the car down! oil is a DIY!!! in NYC I just bought 7 quarts(that about what it takes) of castrol syn. 5w30 and filter for about $58! Easy diy check the treads...click on "search" at the top middle and type in "oil change" lol u got it?
if you have some basic mechanical skills with a ratchet and adjustable wrench and a drive way to do it in, its much cheaper to diy. would only cost you some time and the cost of the oil. here in the north east average full synthetic oil change done by your average oil chaneg place could run between $80-120 depending how much they want to bend u over.

May seem relatively off, but is the back-up noise you're hearing similar to that of an RC car? lol
If you can change your own oil, go to the dealer and buy oil and filter. Shouldn't go over $50 or $60. Where in Miami?

No not exactly its more of like the noise a car makes when it running out of power steering fluid, such as a (I'm trying to type it out and it just isn't happening lmao)
When you say your backing up, how fast are you going? Cause to have the car make some whining noise when your backing up is normal I guess, Atleast all of our cars do it.
