Hi guys! I am the happy owner of a 330D E46 184hp. (automatic transmission) I was wondering how much torque the automatic transmission could handle. I already have a stage 1 at 220hp 480nm and I would like to upgrade to a stage 2 but I don't know if the box will hold up. If you have any recommendations, I’m listening! Thanks a lot

"Hey! What's stage 2?"
Actually, I was doing some research online, and I think I figured out that Stage 2 is somewhere between "Stage 1 Complete"

and "Warning!!! Danger to Manifold"

Any Stages beyond that result in complete loss of passenger side floor pan, so I would advise against it.

Depends mostly on the torque delivery curve of the map you will apply.
Presumably the M57 D1 box is also the 5L40, in which case you've already maxed out the box's capacity.
There are reinforcement mods for it, a guy with a 530d in Sweden had 600+nm from memory.
Or you could just change the oil monthly and pray

Thank you for your answer, it helps me a lot! If you have any other information don't hesitate, I'll try to get started! Stage 2, EGR OFF, intake valve removed, sports air filter, 76mm (3inch) full tube line, reinforced transmission bearing, reinforced flector, large diameter air/water exchanger and high flow injector. (sorry for my English I'm French) I hope to be able to get the maximum horsepower and NM out with the original turbo. I think that a map deployed only on the 3/4/5 gears and restricted to the torque values for the first two gears could be a good idea. What do you think? THANKS

all the usa kiddos at trying to troll the euro diesel supreme!!

not gonna lie when i read his first sentence... a 330i E46 184hp... my thinking is "son you had a 325i and threw in a b30 - hence the upgrade to 220... but this guys already got a turbo in his e46 straight out the factory..

when is someone gonna swap in a e9x 335d diesel into one of our beauties

Stages are just levels of mods, where typically "stage 1" was bolt on mods, "stage 2" being internal engine modifications suspension, "stage 3" being upgraded forced induction, tuning, underglow, nos, 8 ball shifter and a unending desire to drive like a moron on the roads.
