Just had a quick question about an exhaust for my 330ci. I'm 16 so I don't have much money, I'm looking to spend around $300 give or take a little and just weld on a muffler to sound decent. I love driving my car, but that's the one thing that has always bothered me. It's just way too quiet. I don't want anything raspy, but I want something noticable with a nice deep growl to it. Also I don't want it to be too loud. I looked into a muffler delete, but I'm not a fan of all that popping and droning. Anywho, I've looked into several options, and I'm having a little trouble deciding. The original one I wanted was the magnaflow 14816, but I think it may have too much back pressure after the Y pipe because it's only a 2.25" inlet. :facepalm: So I found the Vibrant street power muffler, which several members on here have said great things about, but all the vids I found were bad quality so it's hard to tell what it sounds like. I'd imagine pretty much the same though, as it seems to be almost identical to the magnaflow but with a 3" inlet. So would you guys recommend the vibrant? Or should I get a magnaflow with a 3" inlet and shell out some more on tips and stuff? The problem with the dual inlet mufflers is the pipes are too far apart, and would not clear my bumper.. Hope I made sense. So if you could help me out that would be great! Thanks.

You're 16. Magnaflow will be way too quiet if you aren't running headers.

Do a muffler delete with some nice tips. It doesn't sound that loud, especially with all resonators and everything else stock. Better option would be the kpeng exhaust.. same with with some glasspacks and maybe the axle resonator deleted. Don't spend a bunch of money to find out you don't like it. Both those options are easily reversible if you don't like the sound.

Better yet, spend that money on maintenance before modding.

Thanks for the quick reply! I may go cut off my muffler and see how it sounds, then go from there. I already did FCAB's, MAF, and am about to do a trans and diff flush. So far we've done most of the work ourselves to save on cost. I've been saving for maintenance costs, but this is one thing I really want to get done, I just think it'll make the car a whole lot more fun to drive.

Headers gives you a slightly lower tone at lower RPMs and make the whole car a bit louder. and you get a hp gain for around the same price then save up and get your muffler and you will be happy

I just did the muffler delete and I couldn't be happier. It sounds great and has a really deep growl to it.

I guess I'll try the muffler delete, since it's gonna have to come off anyway. I just don't want it to sound like a jeep, I've only heard youtube clips, so it may sound fantastic in real life. I want something subtle, but noticable. Kind of like a stock 335is.

Ok well the muffler delete is not really that subtle, it definitely has a loudish low end grunt. I really like it and the glances it draws is a nice side effect haha

Was it worth it? You can decide from the clips, but for me probably not. Then again I didn't like the idea of a muffler delete to begin with.

Now I plan on doing headers to get the sound I'm looking for and a few extra hp. What pisses me off are emissions standards. meaning I'll have to swap in the old headers once every 2 years for the "e-test"..

I've looked at the magnaflow, and it seems like a great system, but definitely overpriced. Seems to me, piping is piping, and you're not gonna get a whole lot of gains from a .25" bigger pipe. So I had thought about just buying a magnaflow muffler similar to the one used in this system, and installing it with a Y-pipe, and delete the resonator if needed. I would essentially get almost the same exhaust, but for a lot less money. Why does this only have a single outlet? Kinda weird for a system designed for our cars.

This looks SICK! Awesome price too! Only problem is I'd have to do a lot of fab work to get it to fit on a non-M, and after all that, I could just buy a highline or Rogue IKON. Dang I wish I had money. :banghead:

That's kind of the direction I was leaning. Thinking I'm gonna Y it after the second resonator, run a single 3" to the muffler, and use a universal magnaflow with some nice tips on it. If it's not loud enough, I'll have the second resonator removed, but all I want is a nice deep tone, nothing too loud. So it'll probably be plenty with just that. I'll keep you guys updated with whatever I decide to do. I am planning on getting headers sometime in the future, but I think this will come first, then headers. Thanks for the help!

If you think Magnaflow is overpriced, take a look at UUC catbacks. The price is honestly not bad for the magnaflow, and highline is also a nice setup. The X crossover that mine came with should, in theory, equalize exhaust pressure for a slight power/flow gain. Fitment was good, the Y pipe really doesn't bother me (you can't see it when installed), and shouldn't impact performance.

I like the look, its a bit quiet, but I honestly think if you're doing headers at some point to stick with an aftermarket rear muffler. Otherwise, install glasspacks in place of your OE muffler and call it a day.

Muffler chop is fail. Buy a used magnaflow or highline or for gains get headers as broach said
