Hi guys, I’ve searched for a DIY but have come up empty handed. Is there anyone that has done a write up on getting a getrag 5-speed working in a auto 330ci? I am in aus and zf manual boxes are quite difficult to come across. Most local e46s are automatic, and what manuals did come here seem to be mostly smaller displacement. I got a getrag swap including driveshaft, but unclear about how to make it work with the 330 diff. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a DIY if there is one? Appreciate any help or input

Keep searching...I didn't see an easy DIY, although I am not doing the swap, you are, so you can keep looking...Plenty of posts about it....

Sounds like it installs fine with the possible issue of connecting to rear diff...

How different is the connection on your S5D 250G driveshaft as compared to your 330ci auto rear diff? Does your swap kit include a manual rear diff? It should in my opinion.

Unfortunately i don’t have a diff with the swap .
I’ve done some reading where some have said to swap the diff and take off the output flanges to put on the new diff , i read somewhere else to mix the front of the new driveshaft to my 330 auto rear end of the driveshaft. Then elsewhere it said it cant be done so im bloody confued .

The propshaft section 2 from the auto can be used from the diff up to the center bearing but the section 1 piece from gearbox to center bearing will have to be cut and made to size and re-balanced with the correct size flange at the gearbox end to bolt up to the flex disk on the gearbox. Make sure you get the measurements with the flex disk installed allow for 10-15mm slip as its IRS.

How'd you go?

I had a Getrag 250g here from and was going to use it with a 325, decided not to as the 3.08 diff was a possibly a small unit, it had different outputs and inputs, and though I could have mated the front of the propshaft from my auto one to the 320 one, I wanted something stronger.

tbs its not a bad option to rebuild the auto as there are lots of shops around that can do a decent job (zf is well supported here) though it is still costly if you consider the value of a 20yo (non-M car).
