Just comparing the two and I noticed the wheel is more responsive on the IS300 rather than the 325CI. Is the 330CI better? 325CI seems a little less responsive (eg. have to turn the wheel more to turn)

both were 17. 330 should be the same as 325 right? What about m3...I[m not talking about speed, just about responsiveness.

According to Consumer Reports, the 3-Series has better steering, the IS has better handling.

I would take a IS over a 325i for reliability, acceleration, & handling, & tuning potential.

The 325i has better exterior design, & interior trim.

Reliability, and tuning yes, I agree. Better overall handling and speed? I don't think so. I would bet money that CR did not test a sport version the beemer. Probably tested one wearing 16in rubber. Lexus comes standard wearing 17's, you have ask for the 16's. When I talked about the steering, I was reffering to the level of feedback, and steering effort. Starting 2001, BMW decreased the effort in their cars, making the steering too "light". They fixed it a little in 2003. But that never changed the responsivenes or accuracy if the steering.

No biggie... I was considering the IS300 at one time, so I went to the local library that had all those back issues still on hand. Found the numbers in those issues, and there you go. :)

Libraries with car mags are cool. I know the San Gabriel, CA public library has them going back about a year. The UC Irvine Science library has C&D, R&T, and MT going back all the way til when they first were published I think. Or at least before UCI was even founded. THey got some REAL old issues in there. I think it was on the 5th or 4th floor. Back in undergrad when I was bored and near the library, I'd go up there and just read up on teh comparisons on all the old cars. It was pretty cool.

The tires are listed as 205/50ZR17. The IS had 215/45R17 tires. As I said, CR said the 3-Series has better steering feedback. I am well aware of the 01 "light steering", I've been here forever, w/ well over 1.5K posts.
