323i Touring (Selena)

Hey Guys! Here's my E46 323i Wagon (2000)! She's been in the family since around 2003 with 49,000 miles on the ODO when my parents purchased it for $19,000USD. It has been sitting since 2014, drove probably couple times in 2016. But it's been sitting for quite a bit. (This is an issue when your dad has 7 cars in the driveway). I'm beyond thrilled that it has been passed down to me. I grew up in the back seat. I always loved the E46 chassis, but specifically the touring. Currently has 119,200 miles. Everything is original. There's quite a bit of work that needs to be done. Already dumped 1,500 miles since late August. I will be putting her in storage for winter, living in Upstate New York is brutal on vehicles during Winter. Anyway here is the current projects and future project!

Some Info:
Paint is quite rough, there is a couple dent's on the roof from an outside garage collapsing on it one winter, pretty deep scratches around the rear and front.

Current Repair List:
- Replace Brake Light Switch
- Replace Struts/Springs
- Fluid Flush on Everything

Completed Repairs:
- Change Front Right Corner Light Socket (it got corroded)
  • Change Wiper Blades haven't been changed since actually not sure
  • Radio not turning on (fuse behind radio was blown)

Future Plans:
- Double Din Radio
  • Remove Roof Rack
  • Bit of bodywork to do, might need a good paint correction and some spots resprayed, including some surface rust to deal with.
  • Give the interior a good clean, including leather seats.
  • Change Corner Lenses, Side Markers, Rear Tail Lights to Euro Spec
  • E46 Sport Steering Wheel, Current looks outdated.
  • New set of wheels, current ones are a bit curbed rashed, and I never really them.
  • replace front bumper with MTech 1 or 2 Front Bumper.
  • Coilovers

At some point I may add it for obscure option cred since so few cars in the US have it, but that'll be way down the road.

I wish I could've found factory elephant ears that are power-fold.. however... they are really rare... What's shitty is the part # for those gets confused for the regular mirrors (Found that out the hard way on ebay). Basically stuck with looking at the wiring harness to see the extra two wires. M3 Rep mirrors will do, and it looks great tbh.

I sold my GruppeM Intake, and replace it with a INJEN Short Ram CAI. The reason I am selling the GruppeM Intake is because well.. filter replacement cost is absolutely absurd. with that said, what's my first thoughts of the INJEN? Well, it is much better design then the K&N CAI, I had before. I do like the top metal plate too, nice touch!

How's it sound?

Drove it yesterday, and it sounds nice! Ever since I did Catless Headers, I barely hear the Intake though (I sometimes hear it though). However, it does seem to rev a bit easier (rev matching is a breeze) then the GruppeM Intake? Although this could totally me getting better at revmatching, possibly could be a placebo effect though.

I somehow managed to do 21mpg my list fill up! Which is rather impressive since my commute to work is 10 miles, and includes 8 stoplights (I have been averaging like 18 this summer.. However I did a lot of back road driving up in the rev-range so not surprising and.. shooting some flames out of the tailpipe). I am definitely becoming a bit more proficient with rev-matching, smooth shifts to starts on inclines. The DKM Stage 1 clutch isn't bad, and I am starting to like it. It's nice that its not too aggressive (just stiff clutch pedal) and able to get rolling with no throttle input. However, if you ever plan to replace your clutch.. just stay OEM. I am beyond happy with how my wagon is turning out, such a blast to drive! Smiles Per Gallon!

I absolutely love these mirrors, and have gotten quite a bit of compliments! The other day I was heading to New Jersey to snag a second set of roof rail trim so I can install @redneckvtek roof rail plugs. My current passenger side was damaged from the time the portable garage collapsed on it ages ago (its bent a bit so it doesn't clip in properly in the rear). I was on a tight bridge that is snail pace, and able to fold in the mirrors on a press of a button is fantastic!

I do like to note.. The M3 RTABS w/ Limiters from FCP are terrible! They are insanely squeaky.

Current Plans?
  • Send M3 Cluster to @redneckvtek for rear door leds, epprom flash and a few other things
  • Install ChaseBays Power Steering Kit, and VANOS Line.
  • Replace Fuel Pump / Sender (Preventative)
  • Install KillAllWiper Kit
  • Install Second Set of Roof Rail Trim w/ Roof Rail Plugs
  • Run a Wire from Cluster to Fuse Box (Passenger Mirror Fold w/ Reverse)
  • Fix exhaust leak on the flange that was flipped and welded by my dad.
  • Possibly pull my bank 1 header and re-tap the O2 Sensor and replace it. Somehow managed to cross-thread it... Its not sitting properly. (I learned that when engine was pulled w/ doing manual swap)
  • Replace broken trim interior pieces

I think that's it? I think next year I will just enjoy the wagon and start sourcing parts for the rear end and deal w/ that in 2023.

Sent my M3 cluster off to @redneckvtek to do his magic. I put my Non-M Cluster back in temporarily.. and wow its weird! I was so used to the M3 Cluster (did 10k miles) that the Non-M cluster feels so outdated.

What magic is being done to the M cluster?
Few things!
  • Adding Rear Door LED's
  • Replacing 7-7.5k, 7.5k-8k Amber LED to a Red LED
  • Removing SMG Display and replacing it with a blank from a manual cluster
  • Blanking EPPROM, so I can put my wagon VIN, and coding the correct mileage
  • Removing these LED's pointed below, the M3 it came from had a radar detector and this was used for front and rear warning. Rather clever tbh.
  • Then changing the housing so the holes aren't there anymore, it'll be like a new cluster!

Installed @redneckvtek 3D Printer Plugs from a second set of wagon trim I bought, and it looks incredible OEM+ I'd say! Much better then the 3M Molding Strip I had for covering up the holes.

Lastly! Finally received KillAllWiper Kit. Looks great tbh, and I can still open the rear window if I need too!

Also wagon needs a wash badly, its been raining every other day. With that said, it hasn't been to feasible to wash.

And now it's going to be near freezing all week, so no washing this week!

How do you open the window?
How do you open the window?
Press the button the key fob, which pops open the window. Since I have small hands makes it easy to run my finger under the glass and pop it open.

Oh lol, I thought you meant it still worked from the window itself.

My fingers aren't sausages and yet I still struggled to open the window without the pull. More power to you!

Well my exhaust leak is getting worst, haha! Which is honestly expected considering it was my dad's first time welding to this caliber and it wasn't the best of welds lol.. I'm going to bring it to a professional so it doesn't ever leak again and be bullet proof for the future. With that said, I'm going to replace my Borla Tips, with some DTM Style. It probably won't be too liked, but I have always been a fan of DTM Tips. Been obsessed since I saw it on E30/E36's. I'm sure my wagon can pull it off with how aggressive it is.

I had DTM tips on the 97 Golf I had before I started driving e46s. Very period correct for the car, along with some other tasteful period correct mods. That car had a nice, flat rear bumper (as does the e36), and my worry is that it may look weird with curve there is one the e46 bumper. That's the one thing that bothers me with the Racing Dynamics muffler on my touring, the even tips. The one closer to the center of the car is under the bumper completely. Many systems have staggered tips so they match curvature of the bumper, like BMW factory tips are setup.

Speaking of which... I saw @Gottalovethexi Sedan with Eisenmann Muffler with Meisterschaft DTM tips. Sure it might stick out a bit, but Iove it. I could staggered a little too like the Borla Tips are. My wagon is aggressive as it is, and I feel like this would be a great touch. Probably won't be liked by many but thats okay!

Bought some new things for wagon this week while recovering from COVID.:ROFLMAO:

Decided it was time to go a bit more OEM+ Route instead of having the stupid massive 9" tablet.

- AVIN AVANT 4 Radio w/ IBUS w/ Wireless Carplay

Communication Device Audio equipment Clock Gadget Electronic instrument

- INDUKTIV Wireless Device Charging Unit. I got a bit annoyed with my lightning cable sometimes getting tangled around the shifter so wireless charging seems best route.

Bought new exhaust hangers for the rear with hardware, as-well I found a friend whose gonna repair the the exhaust leak. I'm going to wait on the DTM Tips for now, until I find something I like. Also bought some rear wagon interior pieces, since some of mine are broken.
