Hey Guys! Here's my E46 323i Wagon (2000)! She's been in the family since around 2003 with 49,000 miles on the ODO when my parents purchased it for $19,000USD. It has been sitting since 2014, drove probably couple times in 2016. But it's been sitting for quite a bit. (This is an issue when your dad has 7 cars in the driveway). I'm beyond thrilled that it has been passed down to me. I grew up in the back seat. I always loved the E46 chassis, but specifically the touring. Currently has 119,200 miles. Everything is original. There's quite a bit of work that needs to be done. Already dumped 1,500 miles since late August. I will be putting her in storage for winter, living in Upstate New York is brutal on vehicles during Winter. Anyway here is the current projects and future project!

Some Info:
Paint is quite rough, there is a couple dent's on the roof from an outside garage collapsing on it one winter, pretty deep scratches around the rear and front.

Current Repair List:
- Replace Brake Light Switch
- Replace Struts/Springs
- Fluid Flush on Everything

Completed Repairs:
- Change Front Right Corner Light Socket (it got corroded)
  • Change Wiper Blades haven't been changed since actually not sure
  • Radio not turning on (fuse behind radio was blown)

Future Plans:
- Double Din Radio
  • Remove Roof Rack
  • Bit of bodywork to do, might need a good paint correction and some spots resprayed, including some surface rust to deal with.
  • Give the interior a good clean, including leather seats.
  • Change Corner Lenses, Side Markers, Rear Tail Lights to Euro Spec
  • E46 Sport Steering Wheel, Current looks outdated.
  • New set of wheels, current ones are a bit curbed rashed, and I never really them.
  • replace front bumper with MTech 1 or 2 Front Bumper.
  • Coilovers

I purchased this kit, but I want to be able to keep the option to open the rear window.

I just impulsively bought this. Thank you.

Looking at the diy youtube video, one needs to remove the innards of the unlock mechanism so key fob will not work either.
Which video did you see? Cause this is E46 Touring Rear Glass... You don't touch the locking mechanism.

They refer to their e91 video as it is supposed to have similar mechanism.

As mentioned in the video, you can code the car to use the 3rd button on the FOB to open the rear glass. Stock US config is for the button to open the whole hatch. Opening the whole hatch would still be possible via the normal button above the plate or the one in the kick panel.

It should be codeable via PA soft. I know its codeable via NCS, on a per-key basis (Key 1-4).
Its part of the GM5:
HECKSCHEIBE_ENTR_SENDER_1 - CAR/KEY MEMORY 1 FOR RELEASE TOURING REAR WINDOW

Aktiv = Unlock glass with the FOB
Nicht Aktiv = Unlock the whole tailgate.

You want "Aktiv" if you delete the button by the wiper or there will be no way to open the glass.

Edit: For future readers, as noted below other touring owners have indicated to me that their cars were coded to open the glass on keyfob push.

I'm pretty sure that US coding was to release the glass on keyfob push, rather than the whole hatch. That's how my car was coded and everyone that's discussed it here has been as well.

interesting. I know my car was not coded like that when it came into my ownership, but I have no way it knowing what the previous owner(s) changed.
I was not even aware the rear glass opened at all for about 6 months

yup, thats how my key is currently coded, and all the other E46 Touring's I have seen in person / worked on.

It screws with every other person who tries to open my hatch with the fob, because they don't even know that the glass opens and it ends up moving so little that they don't think that the button press did anything. That's how I got the first rub mark on my spoiler from the hatch being opened while glass was already open - tire shop guy trying to load my old wheels into the hatch.

Yikes!

I guess I'm wondering if I still want the handle on the glass to be able to lift it up once it pops open.

Yes.
I just tried it on mine. The glass pops just enough for me to get my fingertips under it to open , but it is tight.

Even if the latch release stays working with that kit I wouldn't consider the glass very functional anymore.

I have small fingers, so it'll be fine for me.

Finally received these M3 Mirrors Reps (that fit sedan/tourings w/ autofold function) I bought 2 months ago. Excited to see how it looks! I guess next step is doing M3 Fenders? and a S54? :ROFLMAO:

Maybe someday I'll add the autofold to mine.
I used genuine ones so had to mod them to fit, then had to make adapter plates to allow my ribbon cable motors to mount in them, so was right out of patience with any more mods on them. Not to mention that it looks like the best way to source the motors is to buy the reps.

I think one of the biggest reason I didn't go genuine was the fact it would be a pain in the ass to make them fit. I don't think I'd have the patience to do that retrofit, so seems like these reps was the best option.

So my power steering lines went from seeping to actually leaking, thought I could wait a bit longer but nopeee.... 🙄 found a puddle of ATF. With that said.. I went overkill and bought Chase Bays Power Steering Kit (-6AN stainless steel, Teflon PTFE lined, and black PVC coated), this should give me a piece of mind for the next 10 years? Haha! Also finally replacing fuel pump... more or less preventive? Currently at 136k and this will give me piece of mind of it not failing any time soon.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like these M3 Mirrors, However... They look fantastic!

Have you got the folding set up yet? Are they actually any narrower?

I did! Here is a comparison stock vs m3 rep. They are maybe a little narrower? But with the Auto-Fold it makes it so much easier to get out of my garage.

I meant are they narrower when folded. When I look at the shape of the M mirrors and the way that they fold it seems like they'd only be marginally narrower than when extended. That was the main reason that I opted to not go to the trouble and expense of adding that to mine.

Honestly should've measured the factory mirrors to these reps if its narrower when folded in.
