Goodyears 205/50/R17

Just came from Costco trying to mount 205/50/R17 tires to 325I.
Costco guy told me that he can't install the tires to 325i because they are not one of recommend tire size from his computer or dealer :dunno:

I have pretty new set of 205/50/R17 tires. They are already mounted in 17 OEM wheel.

Are these tires far off from standard? If I can't use them, Anyone interested ? Tires are located in 06810

Thank you for your help.

That tire size should only be used for wheels up to 7.5" wide. The OEM 325i SP 17"s are 8.0" wide. It's not safe.

They came off of my friend's 2002 330Ci [205/50/R17]

I also check tires size from the Tire Rack web site.
205/50/R17 is the correct size for 2001 BMW 330Ci

Question is,, why can Costco put 330Ci tires to 325i ?? :dunno:

The 330 non-SP wheels are 17x7.0. 205/50/17 is a safe size for a 7.0 wheel. Your 325 SP wheels are 17x8.0 so you would need a wider tire to fit on that wheel.

Dear, WarSong

Thank you for your reply.

330 non-SP wheels are 17x7.0. 205/50/17.

My 325 SP wheels are NOT 17x8.0  because 205/50/17 tires are already mounted on 330 non-SP wheels 17X7.0

My friend gave me his non-SP wheels [17x7.0] and tires [205/50/17]

I'm so sorry to ask you again. Knowing that tires [205/50/17] are already mount in 17X7.0 Is it safe to install on my 325i ?

Best Regards,

John

okay, i think i understand now :)

you have your friend's 330 non-SP (17x.7.0) wheels on your 325 right? you are not running the 325 SP wheels.

In that case, then the 205/50/17 would be an appropriate tire. The Costco guy is most likely just looking at your model car in the computer and not the actual wheels on your car since he probably doesn't know the difference.

Dear, WarSong

very sorry for the confusion

Could I install 330 non-SP wheels 17x7.0 and tires 205/50/17 to 325i ? :dunno:

Tire Rack web site only show

17X7.5
17X8
17X9

as possible wheel options.

yes, that should be no problem. the 330 and 325 share the same body so the same wheels fit on either.

What are these number mean ? :loco:

17X7.0
17X7.5
17X8.0
17X9.0

If 325i is designed for 17X7.5 and 17X8.0, What would be the disadvantage of putting 17X7.0 wheel with 205/50/17 tire???

Thank you for your answer.

John
