Hey guys, I have a slight leak at the bottom of my expansion tank. This seems to be the only place I am leaking coolant. All belts look dry and great. I am leaking where the lower hose connects into the bottom of the expansion tank. I am wondering besides the expansion tank, what should I replace? The Radiator looks good, no leaking. Water pump/thermostat all work fine and no leaking. Also the drain screw at the bottom is good and dry.

This is an automatic transmission, anything I should be weary of? I am shopping through Pelican parts.

Pictures of exactly where I am leaking at are attached.

Car is 10 years old, if it has all original parts (!) replace the tank and all the hoses + the thermostat, IMO.

Thanks!

Thanks, thats what I figured. Can anyone tell me the name of the hose/part # that connects to the expansion tank, where its leaking?

Also, besides the level sensor, is there anything else there?

Just an important note when you're replacing your expansion tank please, please, please buy a new expansion tank mounting bracket and seat the new tank on the new bracket prior to re-installation; it will save you a ton of @$#$ pain. Just my two and a half cents worth...

Don't forget auto trans thermostat and coolant temperature sensor. The thermostat will break about 99.999% of the time you are pulling the expansion tank out and it's older than a year.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm about to tackle the expansion tank problem as well. Any tips which brands to avoid and which ones are worth it? I'm considering purchasing the ECS Cooling System Refresh Kit - Level 1

Would avoid the ECS Tuning Level 1 refresh kit simply due to the fact the expansion tank manufacturer is Vaico (stick to Genuine BMW or Modine/CoolXpert). Some have had fitment issues with Gates hoses, as well, and the Saleri (OEM) water pump can be had for as little as $50, less than or equal to the price of the Geba water pump.

Many will recommend sticking strictly to OE/OEM parts for the cooling system, and you'll have better luck making your own kit, since you'll have complete control over what brands are used and which parts to include.

Here are some reasons you might build your own kit: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?p=16277980#post16277980, and here's some commentary on cooling system brands/prices: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1067738.

Tank/cooling hoses I always like to stick to OEM just since these parts are so critical and really in the scheme of things not THAT much more expensive than their aftermarket counterparts.

Also, keep in mind that your cooling system isn't operating at it's normal pressure so when you fix a leak you're likely to spring another one at a weak/aged component.
